Wow, you hit the nail on the head: being reflective & owning the impact of our example is essential. It’s the loving and responsible thing to do. Thanks for reminding us to keep this central as we gear up for a new year ❤️

Thank you for sharing! I find a lot of value in what you say because of how honest and vulnerable you are. I also love continuing to learn! I'm glad I'm not the only one! haha And yes, I am also trying to remain PoSiTiVe for my students!

One thing I struggle with becoming an aspiring teacher is not knowing what grade level I want to teach, I keep going back and fourth from high school to middle school, I would like your opinion or insight on how you decided to teacher the grade level you do. Just an idea :)

I always want to be the teacher my daughters will get. What do I want them to see or learn? Now, they are 19, 13, and 9. Fifteen years of teaching and I feel a part of the school community.

Hi Megan! I'm sort of a new subscriber. I know you're very busy since the school year started, but can you somehow put English closed captioning on your videos? I'm hard of hearing and the auto-generated captions aren't entirely accurate.

This message is somewhat unrelated to this video. While it is not about reflecting on our past to see when we felt we became a better teacher, it does have to do with trying to be a better or more engaging teacher. I have a question that I don't know if you've addressed in any previous videos. How would you teach "The History of Christianity" to adults in church? (It's a 7-week course.) The content in the book is MOSTLY dates, time periods, names and places. Other than using graphic organizers, any thoughts, strategies, approaches, etc. on how to be more engaging?

Hello, I graduated 7 years ago with a degree in English literature and Secondary Education. However, I’ve never worked as a teacher because we started a family and I decided to stay home. My youngest though will be starting school next year and I want to start looking for a teaching job then. So, I would like to know if you have any advice for me as far as getting up to date in my teaching subject, lesson planning, and teaching techniques and just refreshing my memory as I’m sure many things have changed.

Dania Rojas: If possible, observe a few teachers on their first few days of the year. There are a few YT videos. The “how’s” of teaching (including the set up of your class culture) are as important as the “what’s.” Think about & plan your day #1, week #1, and the components of your class (ie how you’d intro & implement, for example, vocab, grammar, reading, various units, group work, games, discussions, etc.). In terms of curriculum & lesson plans...they’re all over the web, but technique and implementation are the stuff of effective teachers 😉 Even thinking ahead to how you’d manage paper, cell phones, late work, etc. can make the transition into teaching easier. Get a journal & start planning your approach to different aspects of teaching. You’ll be great.

I’m going to Vlog my first year teaching of you want to get to know me ☺️ My channel was originally about eating vegan food. But there are already so many resources out there for that! I feel like I’ll make a bigger difference showing people what it’s like to be a first year teacher and giving my insights. Especially cause there are hardly any middle school math teachers vloging! I need to represent! Lol
