Wyatt & Dad and Dan the cobler in the UK are my favorite coblers to watch on KZbin. Keep up the good work.

I'm happy to hear the passion, hang on to it. A few month ago I clocked 31 years in the trade and have stepped away. Unfortunately I worked for a mass outfit and it was all about £££ and diversifying to survive which I totally understand. Cobbling dropped down the list , prices went up and up and the diversity brought a customer base in that wanted cheap slap jobs as I call them. Tried to teach and pass on the knowledge but again it was low wages ( you get the quality you pay for as they say) and the employer wanted them trained in the basics in 16 weeks🤣 Lost the love and passion. Looked at setting up here in the UK but set up costs are insane. So I left, was a very sad day. Long winded way to say thank you for keeping the trade alive and thank you for your passion.

You’ve re-crafted a pair of my 1000 Mile boots and Allen Edmonds Park Avenues. I get comments every time I wear them. Cheers for what you do. Happy New Year!

Cobbling as a trade holds a lot of appeal for me. Working with your hands in your own little shop, building customer relationships, and creating something that's practical and useable in a kind of marriage of work and art. (Though when i was young, i didn't know about any of this, so it wasn't on my radar at all).

It is definitely a rewarding and creative career.

My OG Iron Rangers are in their hands now - great call with Tony - can’t wait to see them! Loved the boots, but not the oil resistant (smooth) cork sole. Now the hard part….being patient….

Being a cobbler is a dying art, because the cost of recrafting, is often higher than the cost of a new pair of shoes.

@@chinatownboy7482 that has been the accusation of failed businesses as far back as articles I’ve read from 1902. Yet, 123 years later, there are shops all over the world that are slammed with business. It really has to do with how the business is managed.

@@WyattDadCobblerCompany In my small village of San Francisco, Ca, there were once dozens of cobblers. Most have retired without being able to sell their shops. Meaning that they simply closed the doors without being able to get anything for their retirement years. Of course, most of them were not very good cobblers, or business people.
@WyattDadCobblerCompany2 күн бұрын
@@chinatownboy7482 unfortunately, that has been a severe problem in the US. Since 2010, the US has dropped from 80,000 shops to less than 3,500 shops. The majority of them were successful businesses but had no one to pass them down to. Fortunately, young people are seeing KZbin videos from some of the prominent cobblers of our industry and picking up the trade. Hopefully we will see a revival of the industry

@@WyattDadCobblerCompany It culled the herd . A lot of them were not doing good work and the customers didn't know better. Your videos educate the consumer by showcasing quality work.

Not true if you are buying high end boots and shoes. I just had my Franks boots resoled. Much cheaper than a new pair.
