I too became a dad the old fashioned way. I married a young woman when I was 19. We have three children together and I worked from home and was a full time hands on dad. My wife found parenthood and family life very difficult and ended up moving out. It was a challenge for us to adjust and a year later I came out. My three kids and I are now very happy.

When I was 21 I met and started living with a guy. He was 6 years older than me and a year after being together we had a commitment ceremony. It's what we did back in the 80's here in Australia long before we could marry. My best friend was a woman who was 26 and in a committed relationship with a woman. I agreed to donate sperm so she could have 2 babies that would be her and her partners children. We also agreed that a few years after that, when I was older, we would do it again only this time the children would be mine and my partners. Three years later she had 2 daughters. A two year old and a new born. A week after the birth of the second child my partner was murdered. Six months after that her partner left her, never to be seen again I might add. She and I pooled our resources and moved in together as friends. That will be 30 years ago this year. We brought up 2 beautiful well adjusted women. They are totally different to each other but they are each others best friends. One is career orientated and bisexual, the other is a real homely home body and is heterosexual.

Born in the 50's and grew up in the 60's and 70's. Preprogram said: "Graduate College, get job, get married and have kids." Like you , from an early age, I knew that I wanted children. Married late, and we were married 5 years when started trying. Immediately got Pregnant and I would be a Dad before I was 30, which I wanted . Parenting was not her thing and our relationship was collapsing anyway. Before our son was damaged by that, I left with him . In there too I realized I was in love with a co worker, who is now my husband of 32 years. Her family caused us major drama for years but we survived as a family and thrived and sadly she succumbed to her addictions and passed away . Been very interesting life !

Some countries (such as the UK) do have paid paternity leave which you can mix and match with conventional maternity leave depending on your individual family needs and circumstances, but as the US does not appear to do that at present, it's really awesome of your sponsoring organisation to offer this voluntarily to its employees.

Hey Devon, great to see a video from you. Thank you for sharing your experiences. For me, children were never in the picture. I figured out early on I do not have the patience to be a full time parent. When I was dating (26 years ago), we would discuss future plans. And when the thought of children came up, that generally was the end of the relationship. I have been married to a great guy for 25 years and we both have not regretted our decision. Take care..

Great video Devon. Thanks for sharing. I, like you, had my kids the old fashioned way, with my ex-wife. I was super closeted until after my divorce. Telling my ex-wife I am gay, was a huge mistake. Let’s just say life was complicated after telling her, post-divorce, that I am gay. Life is better now, I have my daughters full-time, and have a wonderful partner (of 7 years) in my life, and we are a happy family. Best of luck in life and endeavors to you. Thanks again for the video.

I wanted kids when I was growing up, but then I entered the real world with college, bills, payments, & running a business. I always said I don't have time or the money to raise kids. The thought of having kids just sort of diminished over the years. Then suddenly 2 nights ago I have a dream about kids & who was going to have my inheritance when I die. I wake up sad that I don't have and mad I didn't have kids. I'm (ONLY) 41 so who knows! If I meet the perfect partner in crime, who also wants kids and descendants then maybe just maybe my dreams of a big family may still come true. haha Love your vids.

Please don't make assumptions about things you know nothing about. Rob made the choice to not be in this relationship any more, I did not leave him. As for Johnson & Johnson, I know you guys don't subscribe to see sponsored vids, but making vids without ads isn't financially worth my time anymore unfortunately. I still do my best to make each video personal and informative or at least entertaining. Do I love making them without Rob? Nope, but I'm doing what I can to make the best of a tough situation.
