To me that will was perfectly legible, it just very clearly was a wildling will. They claimed 9 visited 8, and 9 visited by 14. A tracker would have seen the first, a lookout would have seen the latter, but only a wildling could have seen both.

Pipe - Do you think any game will ever blow up like Fortnite ever again? Me - Remembering when Minecraft came out. Uhmm.... Pipe - I think that era is over. Me - Pipe. I agree it will not happen as the landscape is right now. Nothing new is ever created. But Fortnite was not the first game to blow up like that, and it will not be the last. We can go from Tetris, super mario, pokemon, minecraft, call of duty, gta and more. Those massive franchise are not huge without a reason.

Fortnite came out of nowhere, and honestly the only other game to ever reach that level of mainstream notoriety is Minecraft. Like Call of Duty has a target demographic and sticks to it, and I don't think any *single* mario game has ever come close to the levels of notoriety of fortnite and minecraft in their respective peaks. Tetris is a longnstanding type of popular, it never had the entire world playing, but was consistently played a large amount. I think the only other game that could come close is Pokemon in the early 2000s but I was a bit busy not being born during the first Pokemon wave to really know. TL;DR The only two games I know for sure that had as much of a stranglehold on popular culture during their peaks were Minecraft and Fortnite, and Pokemon might be up there too

@@nicjoy4407 Nah, older games deffo had massive impact. You're comparing games that didn't exist when what you know as the internet didn't exist, which is a completely different landscape. No youtube (or very basic), web pages that took forever to load, no social media, games that existed in a time when gaming was still more niche or "for kids". Minecraft is probably what I'd call the first cultural "youtube" blow up game. Modern Warfare 2 had these crazy real life waiting for release to pick the game up in the store, and obviously had popularity and was the first thing that started the whole get paid for recording yourself playing games, but it was a AAA game pushed by commercials to gain popularity. Minecraft didn't have that, but it showed up when youtube had already just started it's creator program paying people for their videos. Minecraft was probably the first game that just blew up naturally, no commercials, not AAA, just people playing it and others watching and then playing themselves. That doesn't mean the games before it weren't impactful enough to do it, but just simply because they didn't have what's probably the greatest avenue to reach new players, the modern internet, and the fact that even crappy computers could run minecraft, where previously you needed a console or a computer that could handle games to play those games. But certainly minecraft was the first video game phenomenon in the social media age (counting youtube as this). Fortnite explosion was basically the second explosion of the modern internet, but coming out in a strongly established social media age rather than a new one like Minecraft. Games before the social media age/modern internet blew up massively for their size, but always started from a small base. If you're arguing notoriety, random people will recognize pokemon or Mario before minecraft and certainly fortnite, so you can argue they have more notoriety than both. in fact, nothing compares imo to how pokemon basically hit the brand power. Games, trading cards, toys, cartoons. It's boom wasn't just as a video game, but a cultural craze in everything. In short, there will be other games that blow up just like minecraft or fornite. When you compare how big games were at their time vs other games, things like super mario bros or pokemon red and blue were certainly just as big for their time and will also probably stand the test of time as an established brand better. Pokemon will still exist making games and being played 50 years from now, minecraft and fortnite only current exist and a single game, not a series, and unless that can turn that into more, they won't be here in 50 years (minecraft maybe, fortnite unlikely).

@ You see, I wasn't talking about long stream success, I was talking about mainstream media notoriety at their peak. I wasn't alive during the first few generations of pokemon (I was born between gen 3 and 4) however I know from how many news clips there were about it that it had mainstream notoriety. I don't think minecraft and fortnite reached the same peak of *mainstream* notoriety however were pretty close, and imo nothing has come even close to these 3. There are games/series that have been popular, and I know that Mario as a whole has been massive, however that wasn't attributed to one single game, nor did the peak (probably sm64) reach the same level of notoriety at said peak. During Minecraft's peak you couldn't go anywhere without hearing about it, same with pokemon and same with fortnite. With all the other examples, it was nowhere near as widespread, it had its target audience and within those spheres it was unavoidable, but outside of it, it really wasn't that popular. Honestly if I try and think of a game that's gotten even close to the level of notoriety of the big 3, it would have to be GTA5 but I don't think it did, and honestly other than GTA6 I don't see any game reaching that level in the future. The internet has changed, and it moves so fast, games blow up and are gone in a month. Look at Among Us, Fall Guys, Lethal Company, Palworld. The internet moves on so fast that by the time it grows enough to reach its peak it's already losing momentum, and without the backing of the internet no game will reach that level in the modern day.

​@@nicjoy4407 It actually didn't. Fortnite was announced back in 2011. The Alpha release was in 2014. It was then released in July of 2017. However. Fortnite was not a successful game at release. In fact. Fortnite was kind of rejected at release. It was after September 26 2017 where they released a free to play Battle Royale Fortnite took of. Fortnite jumped on the trend that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) created, but was better at it than PUBG was. That is why Fortnite became successful. It manage to jump on a current trend fast enough and did it better than anyone else. It was not a game that came out of nowhere. You say things like COD has a targeted demographic. But you will say the same exact thing 10-15 years from now when it comes to Fortnite. You view history not from how it was back then, but how you look at it now. Back in 2007, COD was a game EVERYONE that played games had. There is a reason why COD4 created the FPS modern military shooter genre. We basically had COD clones for a decade after that. It is the same for all those kinds of game. It is also funny how you make the claim that Tetris has never reached any real success in popular culture. Tetris is literally the most sold game in history. Everyone knows who what it is. Even your grand mother knows what Tetris is.

I first played Fortnite during season X (10), and my first ever win I had 0 kills, because both the last guys died to storm. My experience with Fortnite was basically I got some of the base ‘this is what Fortnite is’ from season 10, saw my first live event with, ironically, the end, started season 1, quit for a bit, went back when season 2 started, played until season 5, returned a bit for season 7, fully returned for season 8, played a bit of chapter 3 season 1, and kinda just stopped playing from there
