BECOMING A DISCIPLE OF ARUGAL! | Project Ascension S8 | Classless WoW | Progression, M+, Raiding

Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today we become a Disciple of Arugal himself - the last boss of Shadowfang Keep - and we give the shadow missiles Shadow Mage build a try on Project Ascension Season 8!
In this video we take the Disciple of Arugal character from 1-60, getting a great build for the spec in the process, and then progressing him into Mythics, M+, and Raids with varied results. Ultimately, while we initially begin with a spirit and haste based version of the spec, towards the end we give a crit/dot based version a try and end up with far greater results (specifically in the AoE department) that actually make the build shine.

on area52 i build a selfbrewed dot based caster tank build on all damage taken+ magic damage taken talents who working all the time plus nether protection and natural perfection plus all spell selfheal like fel concentration soul leech soul siphon vampiric embrace fel armor with defense stance and master of demonology with enslaved demon with int spirit stamina gear and for additional magic damage reduce i use mage armor and dampen magic

sup, was playing arugal in the beginning of S8 aswell. My version used mindblast & shadowburn to keep up backdraft for faster Sbolts and thus morge Arcane missiles procs. running 1/3TE into soulleech and 2/2 into imp. soulleech for the mana return. was running : -shadow waste bolt - dusk till dawn - mindburn could keep up 100% uptime on backdraft for that easy hastebuff & barely had mana problems

I liked using shadow word pain and mind blast. Mind blast refreshes SWP and procs backdraft. Use the shadow core RE to have Mind Blast buff molten core as well.

I've been working on a self healing tank build for awhile so im curious to see what you come up with. I've tried mostly holy but there are some nice shadow heals toe work with. Even with an incomplete build it keeps me on top of the charts for pvp and pve. I actually got into watching your vids because of players telling me about similar builds I've come up with being compared to yours. Truth is you have a much firmer grasp on the re and their synergy so keep up the good work.

Season 8 is the best Ascension has ever been in depth and attention to detail to UI and whatnot. It's just that new LREs are balanced around really good itemization and precise talent/enchant tweaking. Other than that, it's fun to figure it out, it's just grindy. Also, you did better dps than my Darkmaster at similar ilvl :) - Tipsout (not the og)

i know i'm like 2 weeks late but i want to ask anyone that reads me how do you think this builds holds up to pure shadow? how do you think the enchant that makes shadowflame an aoe corruption aplicator will work with disciple of arugal? if darkness, that sp talent for instant mind blast, could be proced by corruptoon how would the shadow core re work for both legendaries?

Haven't been playing much recently but my main dps build right now is the Herod Legacy Wind Rager. I tried this at the start of the season and was actually pulling similar dps to what you are now but with worse gear and no shadow form cause I didn't roll it, so some of the issue with the single target is just tweaking your talents and Epic RE's. Using Backdraft along with Mindblast and Shadowburn in combination with the Shadow Core and Dusk till Dawn RE's can make for a really nice, fairly stable rotation since between both Mindblast and Shadowburn you can keep the 25% haste effect rolling for nearly all your Shadow Bolts, have more consistent Molten Core charges, and not have to manually refresh Corruption since a 5 stack Dust till Dawn Shadowburn will reapply it. The downside being your Nightfall proc'd instant Shadowbolts will eat a Backdraft charge but the bonus damage on it makes up for it and you still want Nightfall for the aoe rotation since Shadowflame procs Nightfall for the instant Seeds of Corruption. I grabbed 3 points in Shadow and Flame for the damage boost to Shadow Bolt, Shadowburn, and Shadow Flame and the reduced cooldown putting Shadowflame at 9 second cooldown means its usually up for every aoe pull even in super fast pumper grps. Other major talents you missed for the build is grabbing Shadow Mastery in Affliction tree for the flat 6% boost to Shadow Damage and picking up Arcane Empowerment instead of bothering with Netherwind Presence. The Arcane Empowerment is a flat 3% damage boost for yourself and the party/raid on top of making your Shadow Missiles hit 40% harder. One major improvement the RE needs is to make it passively allow your 2 main dots to crit. Spending 6 talent points to allow Corruption and Curse of Agony to crit is insane and totally not worth it when their damage isn't the main draw of them but the stacking of various buffs they do- Lessons in Shadow for more Missile Barrages, Molten Core charges, Nightfall procs, and of course the Arugal's Fury that they can't actually give you unless they crit. They could either passively add it to the RE or have the RE buff Shadow Form to allow Corruption and Curse of Agony to crit like it does for Shadow Priest DOTs. -Xenthalus

@@Mcdoubles Yeah but you can't really declare it garbage if your not building it optimally. Going for themes and memes is fine and good if that's what you enjoy, but you can't base balance and build strength off that. It's obviously going to use most of the same RE's and talents as Pure Shadow since the premise of the builds are functionally the same, use Mindblast and Shadowburn as reasonably hard hitting enablers for Backdraft and maintaining Molten Core/Corruption uptime and otherwise spam Shadow Bolt until you can hit your "big payoff" ability Shadow Fury for Pure Shadow and Shadow Missiles for DoA. The main issue is that Pure Shadow's "big payoff" is actually a big payoff both in AoE and single target. DoA's "big payoff" occurs more often but isn't as big and is also strictly single target but with the benefit of stacking a debuff to boost your rotational damage. DoA isn't garbage tier but it also isn't meta but then again most of the really good meta builds around the new RE's this season are getting nerfed. So people just go back to meta builds that are old and rarely get touched and tweak them further with some choice picked new RE's to make them even stronger than they were in the past which in turn makes the nerfed new builds look even worse. The devs either have to go back and nerf old builds down to the level of the new stuff which will just make everyone pissed and feel bad, nerf the old stuff while unnerffing/buffing new stuff which some people will enjoy but others won't since they will feel railroaded into playing a new build as opposed to the old builds they enjoy, or unnerf/buff the new stuff so that it is equal to the older builds that "overperform" and stop worrying so much about "balance" for PvE when everyone facerolls the majority of the content regardless of what the devs do.

had almost the same setup a couple days ago , + shadowburn for corruption spread with dusk till dawn RE and chaos bolt chaos manifesting RE and dark embrace RE and got also to 2,5 k aoe on dummies with 61 item level ...but single target sucks a$$ :) wondering if you raise crit for more corruption procs and maybe using nightfall and backlash you could like make waste bolt instant so shadow missles proc quicker and crit?... So for the LRE it definitely needs a buff, but not just a numbers buff either more like a mechanics buff. Either 1) they make it so you can proc missile barrage off of other spells the same way arcane mages do ( for example haunt would have a 40% chance to proc it or have unstable affliction and corruption have a chance to proc it) and have arcane missiles gain bonus damage from haunt and shadows embrace. Or 2) add a new spell into the mix for more single target ( for example something along the lines of unstable affliction gains 3 seconds of up time for each hit of the missile barrage) or have the missiles proc some other affect ( like each hit of barrage has a chance to proc shadow trance). However even if they buff the numbers the sheer slot machine way it plays is just not good, and it needs some new mechanics because I don't think just a numbers buff would really fix anything unless they make it op as heck. Also if your looking for something new to play, try a melee dual wield strength base atonement build with graceful prayer and earthlinving weapon.

8:21 shadow form isn't active. I tried DoA earlier in the season and ended up using starfire while leveling because it procced the missiles far more reliably. A possible weakness of the build is that it's too far spread out in terms of damage talents. And by that I mean shadow bolt talents don't increase missiles and missile talents don't increase your shadow bolt output, which is probably why your shadow bolts felt so weak in comparison to other builds. As they're focused enough that their prime ability talents self synergize whereas arcane mage + affl/destru warlock don't.

Ahh yes he was the leader of Deus Vult mostly known as Hades lvl 20 twink, then Xecc I was Forge was a victim so much times the top guilds protected me they will gear me out il go wpvp and return trade district naked, I was known as the most ganked player on the server once upon a time back in Awakening whelp fun times, the GMs use to be tripping if you talked smack in world chat to someone they will tp you to that player and use duel it out and then announce the winner over world chat fun times

Noticed today as i prestige'd in bg's that Shadow Bolt was either ninja nerfed or broken... horrible damage! Devs have hated shadow since season 1, when everyone noticed the spriest / afflilock synergy... and they gutted it. Any type of shadow caster is a complete joke now on Ascension. It's too bad really 🙄
