aww that’s awesome! I wish she replied to me when I had emailed her about my struggles of trying to get into nursing school. The video she made about getting into nursing school after failing anatomy was the first one I watched, and in fact, I was struggling with anatomy the time I watched it, so I just wanted to let her know how much it helped me. I also was interested in applying to same program she graduated from and I just wanted some advice about it specifically! :(

As an RN who’s considering an NP, I always get the BEST care from an NP. I respect doctors BUT NP’s have the heart of a nurse and there’s a huge difference. I’m considering psych NP. It’s difficult to find a job as an FNP. 😕

I agree, I’m not an RN yet however I understand where you’re coming from over saturation of FNP that’s why I’m not really leaning toward that specific route for grad. And yes I receive amazing primary care from my former NP a few years ago, if my insurance didn’t change I would definitely stick with her.

If you like acute care I think that field is growing too. But honestly, in a few years all the FNPs will be needed when more of the doctors retire.

I love being an NP but let me tell you, the role is COMPLETELY different from being a nurse and the transition in to provider role is definitely a culture shock. Also the amount of responsibility now compared to my role as an RN is also quite stressful at times but like you said, investing in your degree is always a great accomplishment and I’m happy I did it. ☺️

JORDANA WILLIAMS Thank you so much for replying! I’m planning on getting my bachelors for that exact reason but also because I may want to become a nurse practitioner. Do you have to take a year before to get pre reqs? I was always so confused on that. Also, do you have to get your cna license before nursing school so you have a basic understanding of things? Hopefully you have time to answer those but thanks in advance! ☺️

Great video. I agree being a RN for 2 years should be a minimum so you get the basic understanding of what even goes on at the hospital. As nursing studetns we don't evne get the full 12 hours of having 5 patients so it is important we can time manage that first before choosing to be a "master" in it. Anyways thanks for sharing!

Love you Alexis! 💕 just wanted to point out it’s hard to compare residents and NPs. They really aren’t comparable. Both are great! An experienced NP has a wealth of knowledge and skills while yes residents are still technically training in the physician role. But backgrounds are very different, the intensity of medical school from the jump and then residency is not similar to nursing school and then NP program. Both are amazing but different by design. I’m excited for your future whatever you decide you will excel!

I was literally in my peds clinical the other day and a resident wrote the wrong dosage for a patient... my clinical instructor went and question the order bc the resident used the ER weight instead of the current weight... needless to say the dosage weight was 6 lbs off. yikes... residents make mistakes... they literally start learning once on the job. Lets not knock each other out, but help each other learn.

I completely understand from your perspective that an experienced NP beats a resident doctor however you being a nurse, this is likely a biased opinion 😀. Doctors are trained specifically to manage DIFFERENT things and diagnose complex situations, this does not take away from the brilliant work nurses/nurse practitioners do and that the experienced nurses are so so helpful when it comes to managing patients. Like with every career, there are good and bad nurses/physicians so it really comes down to who you get. Interesting video! x

As a nurse who wants to become a nurse practitioner one day, I actually hate it when I have to see the nurse practitioner for myself! Even for a physical, even though I know nurse practitioners are trained very well for this type of care. Maybe because I’m such a hypochondriac that that I feel like I want the most knowledgeable and trained so they don’t miss something or look over something a nurse practitioner might. In my experience NPs have been very attentive and thorough but I still want an MD at the end of the day that’s the most reassuring for me. This has lead me to decide to become an NP only in a field where I know I will be working directly under a physician so that I can feel comfortable in my practice and not feel as though I’m being forced to manage things outside of my knowledge base for my own sake and the patient’s. I know many times in family practice clinics NPs are taking on complicated patients that they don’t feel comfortable managing because there is either a lack or physicians or they are very booked out. Just my thought.
@melmar2515
@melmar2515 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, from what I've seen NPs sit down and take more time with patient's and their families. I see doctors round for like 5 minutes per pt and answer 3 pages like 2 hours after. I feel like Doctors have way too many patients that they obviously have to prioritize time with acuity level. That's why I think PAs and NPs are necessary. There are many cases out of NP scope of practice that require MDs but there are also many patients that are there for chronic issues who would benefit from having a NP/ PA treat them.

I agree with you. Having a solid career before venturing into business is amazing. This is coming from someone who ran a small business full time for 4 years. My best year I pulled almost $200K in revenue. But it’s hard, and stressful and you never really stop working. I’m going to pursue a career in healthcare now and really considering nursing for all the reasons you’re stating as well. Being able to have more of a tangible effect on peoples lives plus the flexibility, opportunity and security of nursing is really reassuring. It’s like having the best of both worlds: your bread and butter as a nurse and then the actual income to start side hustles. I’ve also noticed many of successful entrepreneurs I’ve talked to were experts in some field before they became entrepreneurs. They were able to leverage their knowledge and experience to back up their products or do consulting work etc.

I knew I wanted to be an RN with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. My beginning was rough, being baptized by fire I call it in my first position as a graduate RN, BSN. To all my new nurses, please do not settle with a position that is not giving you what you need. In addition, I do not feel personally I made sure that I did my part in getting what I wanted from where I started, despite not having the proper and thorough training in the beginning as I desired as a new RN, BSN. So it is also what you put in despite your circumstances that you can get the best out of what has been dealt to you. The other thing I am still struggling with is fear. Fear to change jobs to get the best out of what I worked hard for, so I must put my desire to prayer and paper, that is my goal for now. I know I can do more with degree I have, I have an idea of what it is I want to do given my years of experience but it is the confidence of what I do know and can do and trusting that Jehovah God will not give me more than I can handle that I have to trust in Him and what He knows I can do safely and effectively. Pray on my fellow nurses and never loose sight as to why you became a nurse in the first place and I pray that this reason was for an altruistic purpose and not just for the money because then you may never love what you do if it is just for the money, I am just saying and those whom you care for will be able to tell the difference.

I worked 1 year before going to NP school. I knew before getting my BSN I knew I wanted to be an NP. In my opinion it’s not necessary to work a year before going to NP school. Most NP schools are part time so you still get bedside experience. The role as a FNP is different than the acute care RN so working in the hospital was not as Benicia as I thought it would be. By the way some states NP have full practice but your never alone because there is always an NP or MD there to help.

PAs can often do NP jobs - I would suggest PA because they have lateral mobility. They can move into any field without having to go back to school. If you’re an acute care adult/geriatric NP, you can’t move to being a pediatric NP without going to school for another year.
@theshinythings123
@theshinythings123 2 жыл бұрын
I would do NP because PA school is getting ridiculously hard to get into. You pretty much have to put as much effort as in getting into medical school to get into PA school. Personally, I would just go to medical school if I had to put that ridiculous amount of effort into getting in. Also PA schools cost much more than NP school. This is from my experience. I had a 3.3-3.4 gpa from my microbiology degree which is low to get into PA school. Logically PA school made more sense to get into from there but I saw it was so hard to get into. It's faster to just do an accelerated nursing program, work for a few years, then go to NP school.

Becoming a Nurse Practitioner is definitely an excellent choice, but I personally think it's not the only choice a nurse has if he/she wants to be successful, as you mentioned. There's a vast amount of other avenues that can be taken to fulfill your passion in the Nursing field.

I think it is good option if you do it with right motivation, such as wanting to do more for patients. Not so much so if you want to become a NP simply because others people are pursing it, wanting to play “doctor”, and make more money. People shouldn’t be arrogant for status upgrade but always be humble, kind, and proud for being a nurse.

Dealing with being in the hospital I would much rather a nurse practitioner then a resident who’s feeling themselves and think oh I can just do whatever I want I’ve dealt with some interesting residents however my nurse practitioner is so sweet and kind

I was thinking of getting my nursing degree and working in the field for like a year and then going back to get my bsn , then eventually going back to school to become a nurse practitioner. Any opinions or advice on this decision . I find myself second guessing if I’m taking the right or wrong steps .

I am a new grad and got hired onto a tele floor, I plan on moving to the ER as that is where I truly want to be. Then from there I want to pursue my NP. Any advice for sticking it out on a floor that I am not 100% happy on?

I work at an urgent care and we have MD and NP as the providers majority of the time it’s one or the other. Patients will always call and ask if we have MD or NP and would rather not be seen by a NP. It’s so annoying because a NP can treat and diagnose you the same as a doctor would!

I would trust NPs more if their education was more rigorous. I heard the education of NPs is too easy. It makes me worry that no matter how smart the person who is an NP they literally won't know it because they were never taught. Like the foundation of knowledge to make the best decisions aren't good enough to build off of through clinical experience later on.

I wanna get my BSN first then find out what kind of nurse I wanna be through the process. Get a good job with that degree to get some experience and then go back to school to get my masters or NP to become even more successful.
