Unfortunately, most schools don't offer a "QA" program or class. You have to learn it outside from a bootcamp or course(I have some info courses on my website). But if you want to eventually do automation testing, it can be helpful to take a class in a programming language like Java, C#, Python, SQL. Let me know if you have other questions!

I`ve just gotten my first opportunity in the I.T field, and it is in the Q.A department. It`s a pretty good company, with a good chance to get a promotion (it`s a trainee program). I was looking for a opportunity to work as a developer, but i ended up starting working in Q.A. Honestlty as far i read about it, looks to be pretty interesting. Anyway, i have a couple of questions to make: 1) How much of programming I'm going to use on my job? They (people in my company) talked about some tools like selenium, for example. They say that it uses C#, is that right? 2) How good is the prospect to this area if We compare with a job as a developer, for example, when It comes to talk about salary range, for example? Worst? Better?
@thetestlead
@thetestlead Жыл бұрын
Congrats 1. It depends if you do manual or automation QA Manual-> no code Automation->code Selenium uses c# as well as other programs languages 2. Salary wise-depends on the company but on average: Manual QA would be the lowest, automation in the middle, followed by developers being the most You can always transition into a full developer after entering automation. In saying that, there are people who do manual QA there entire lives and still have a very comfortable salary even in high cost of living places like NYC where I live

This is valuable information. I'm a self-taught programmer and would like to better my chances by learning QA, also. I'm currently building out my portfolio using HTML/CSS/JS/React/Python/SQL... how could I display on my portfolio that I know QA Testing also. I'm considering getting the ISTQB certification. Outside of that, what other skills should I showcase?
@thetestlead

Thank you for the support. Because you have all the coding already down you are in a good position. To make the QA transition I'd first make sure I have all the testing methodologies and principles down. Then if you have resources test you or someone's website and go through the full testing life cycle and be able to able to talk about it confidently. Then put that as experience on your resume. Or just list the QA buzzwords on your resume so recruiters can possibly find you, so you look less like a just a regular developer and more like a developer who knows how to test l

Thanks for the support. The more experience you have the more demands and flexibility you can create for yourself. If you have the skillset and experience and a company needs you, you can negotiate work from home instead of the office as well as other benefits. You also can be a consultant and do freelance work for part time jobs in QA. They are usually contract jobs and may not have the full benefits as a full time employee, but should still pay well.

A very informative video, thanks for taking the time. I just bought a highly rated Udemy course "The Complete Software Tester Bootcamp". If I get the ISTQB certification after taking it, will it be enough to land an entry level job? I have some coding experience as well. A little html, css and kotlin because I studied some web development than switched to Android. Could I use Kotlin for automated testing since it's interoperable with Java? My long term goal is still to be an Android developer but it's taking a while to learn and I hate my current job and want to break into tech ASAP. I think I will benefit from the experience and connections I will build and I also might pursue a Software Engineering degree. Do you think it's a good fit for me or should I stay at my current job and keep studying Android if it's what I really want to do?

Hey, I made this video a year ago and in that time many bootcamps have changed their pricing and policies in regards to refunds for not finding a job. If you want to go the bootcamp route try to actually connect with someone from their company on the phone or email first and ask them about the refund and what makes you qualified/unqualified. Some people have said they signed up for a bootcamp but because they didn’t do assignments or missed a meeting they no longer qualified for the refund so be careful

Been researching Bootcamps to get into Manual QA and Automated QA , super new to this industry and very excited to start but does anyone know any bootcamps that are legit? or what's the best course of action to begin ?
@thetestlead
@thetestlead 3 ай бұрын
I’ll leave it open for people who have actually attended various bootcamps and can give first hand experience but my advice is the following 1. Try to find one with manual and automation. Automation is in higher demand and has a higher ceiling for pay because it is more challenging 2. Don’t rush or feel pressured into any purchase or commitment and read all documentation. Some make wild claims, but then you have to read the fine print for the full details. For example people have mentioned bootcamps that had money back guaranteed, but then they missed a class or hw and couldn’t be qualified for it anymore. 3. Take reviews online with a grain of salt, usually a bad review can be 1 person who had a bad experience and is an outlier and a good review can easily be made up 4. Try to ask if they have any career placement help and what is it 5. If they have an internship make sure it’s at least a month so you can get something out of it. It takes a few weeks to just get used to a new company so seeing someone with an internship with less time than that I think it’s a fake internship Hope this helped and goodluck!

They are basically the same. The difference is Automation tester/Engineer vs QA tester/engineer. Automationation engineer /tester writes code in a programming language where as QA tester/engineer might just be a manual tester

@@thetestlead Thanks. I’m not sure if this is worth pursuing. I see so little about it. Is this not a desirable thing to do? Tech is a tough place to be lately, at 55 I’m not sure even with 22 years in IT experience it possible to get a job at all. Please show me different. Thanks.
@thetestlead

QA as whole is semi new because a lot of it used to be done overseas for cheaper prices and it’s not as glorified as software development. That’s why you’ll only see a handful of KZbin channels on QA and a million on software development. In saying that, it has become more popular and more people are starting to get into it making getting jobs in it slightly more challenging now because jobs have more candidates to choose from and can also raise their requirements because of that. What location are you currently in and are you looking for remote or in person. You also mentioned other IT experience previously, what focus was that in?

@@karandumbre2668 The fastest way is most likely a bootcamp and you would spend under $5,000 roughly. Here is a list of some bootcamprankings.com/best-software-testing-bootcamps/ Unless you are really disciplined you can do UDemy and Yotube for a couple of weeks and then start applying for jobs on Fiverr and Upwork(just for resume experience and more practice for yourself) and continue to learn as you go.

1. is it important to learn HTML, CSS, Javascript for a QA/software testing position? 2. is it worth getting ISTQB Foundation Level certified? 3. Can you recommend the best/most affordable bootcamp for someone who's willing to pay 2-3k for a camp? 4. In your opinion how much coding/programming knowledge would you need to know for QA before applying? on a scale 1-10? 10 being a lot of knowledge
@thetestlead
@thetestlead 2 жыл бұрын
1. You should know high-level html and css. For example, go to any web page, right-click it, then click "inspect" and be able to understand that there are divs, ids, and other elements on a web page. These will be used in automation to interact with the webpage. 2. If you have the money yes, but definitely not a requirement 3. bootcamprankings.com/best-software-testing-bootcamps/ This gives a list of some 4. For general QA(Manual testing) no coding is required. For automation testing prob 6-7. Once you get an understanding of writing automation code you resue a lot of it and then just google everything else

@@basedboy9658 yeah I have a separate video on getting info manual testing on my channel. JavaScript is not a requirement, but definitely nice to know. I will make a video introduction for html in the near future, but you can search KZbin and Udemy for building simple landing pages or websites using css and html and just get used to identifying the tags like . You won’t ever have to make a website but going through the process of that and creating web elements such as a button on a page will help you learn it better

There’s a lot to that statement, but I will do my best to answer from my opinion and I’m always open to listen to others opinions as well. 1. College is a wonderful option(most jobs still require a diploma), but if someone can’t afford it I don’t think they should give up on their journey 2. You don’t need to be “the smartest” to get a job in the field. Just smart enough to effectively and efficiently do your job tasks. Anything else is just a plus. 3. After you have experience in the field, future jobs care less about where your degree was from & more about your past job roles 4. (Not speaking IVY league level)I’ve encountered many coworkers from bigger named schools who were good test takers in college, but struggle to actually apply any of the information into the real world and then struggle on the job
