I’ve always been a fan of the scouts, and miss the days when you could field an almost diverse and semi-usable army using mostly units comprised of them. Speeders, bikes, and infantry squads, backed by only a captain, a few razorbacks, and three dozen quarts of electric tequila would often make an all gretchin/snotling player question their choices in life, army selection, and alcoholic beverages. Personally, I own a Primaris Vanguard army because I like high heels and stockings with suspenders, but all (almost) all scout army would be my second choice for Astartes because I’m an Ork player and don’t like to be certain of anything, least of all victory. Edit: I may have smoked one too many fungus cigars before I typed this and misses the second S in the word “speeders.” Noticing this is herusee, pleez giv yor gunz to da big red ship wiv da blud ax glyph on da side (itz for tricking dumb umiez, i meen, filfer zeenoez wiv. Wa-ahem, da empruh protekts! 💀)

I still say the reason 10th edition doesn't let you run Scout Sniper teams is solely because they were arguably better than the Eliminators and GW doesn't want them to outsell a Primaris kit. Which is really really dumb when they have different niches because Eliminators can run Las Fusils and do anti-armor better while Scouts focus on killing MEQs. I picked a very silly time to get into 40k.

The frustrating thing is that GW's model quality is generally outstanding. They ABSOLUTELY could make amazing kits with weapon options and variations. "Tacitus Devastator" and "Gravis Devastator" kits could have been real. Instead we've turned Space Marines into Aspect Warriors.

iirc the pre-heresy death guard were known to put their scouts through a grueling process of poison consumption (toxins included the juices of the catachan barking toad, colloquially referred to as “electric tequila”) that was meant to increase their already-high tolerance for toxins…the survival rate was extremely low, and the death guard had one of the smallest scout companies of any legion as a result

(there is a relevant point to this) Long ago I went to a centre parks with a girlfriend and her family, they all shunned the pool (heretics!) And the only other notable thing was her brother was trying to feed the squirrels outside, but got bit by this massive mangy one the size of a cat. I called him War Bastard, he was the most vicious thing I'd ever seen, like a Glaswegian tramp who'd been on the electric tequila. I feel this squirrel should be the War Bastard's mascot. I ruthlessly mocked her brother for the rest of the trip. It's one of my fondest memories of the whole relationship...

Wow, the old art with the Landsknecht style Scouts is pretty damn cool. I'm guessing they wanted to move the whole medieval-ish or heraldic theming away from Space Marines to some extent (some chapters still have it), and put that onto Imperial Knights. Also that story where the Scouts find an STC that can make an Electric Tequila is pretty badass, you should check it out.

The preview art on epside thumbnail makes me think we could have got more interesting scouts that were like space squires. The other marine minatures seem to get increasing ornate armor, actual 3rd ed stuff did not look like box art of black templar, now we have black templar with tabards being a thing and a minature posed excactly like the art. But scouts dont have as much.

This reminds me of a book excerpt in one of the 90's white dwarves... scouts fighting in hive fleet ships. The writer went quite heavy on disgusting methaphors for the biological ship invasion if I remember correctly. The scouts died, of course, and no-one really cared.

Great video and yes if over two companies worth of Space Marines I in my 34 years of playing have never fielded any Space Marine Scouts probably due to not owning a single one. With "Electric Tequila" oh yes I did paused the video to read about the War Bastards, I have never found the need to put them into any of my Space Marine armies probably due to their limited lifespan on the tabletop or just that I have them out scouting somewhere.

I love your videos full of satire with all of the ridiculous new stuff for the current new current edition of Warhammer 40K Space Marines. This is the reason why I stopped chasing current editions of 40K about 10 years ago, and topped out at 7 to add because it's the last one that has anything to do with the original rule system.
