I love how clever they were with this sequence - showing only with step and music changes that they kept dancing after the first one, were so enthralled with each other that they just kept dancing despite "hating each other", and it was confirmed with dialogue only afterwards. Just brilliant filmmaking.

I love how when he says "you consider yourself above your company" she says "me" but she kind of smiles a little to herself I think because she really felt a little different and here comes this handsome dude with sense of humor who is the first person to notice that.... And I think she really LOVED that he said that

“Will you give so much to a woman?” “It must depend upon the woman,” Am I the only one who loves that little bit? It’s probably just to do with the way Mcavoy delivers that little bit, it’s so quick and like. On the beat? I need to stop.

There are three different dances in quick succession--which means they continued their conversation for a long time! I'm not sure (yet) which the first and third dances are, but the second one is definitely Trip to Paris, and as written, as we still dance it today! It's awesome. :)

@@ReneeCamus The Version of Hole in the wall in the movie is interesting: In this version of playing Hole in the Wall, they have played the structure of the original tune (16 bars, AAB) only in the first both verses. Then you can see a final verse with only 12 bars (AB), with the same couples of the Set from the second verse.

how much nicer they looked in those days, girls in pretty dresses not showing bra straps etc, and the fellows in smart coats, breeches etc, not baggy jeans with half a yard of knickers showing, nicer manners too
@michelle.pearl.7 жыл бұрын
Fun story, back then they considered those dresses as scandalous as "showing bra straps" and the breeches men wore were similar to what we think of "baggy jeans" in terms of being radically inappropriate.
@Mav_F7 жыл бұрын
Well, I believe that bras werent even invented then. I think it was girdles, corsets and tight fitting dresses and wrapped material that kept those personal items up. lol Bras are a possibility last century (1900s mid-century) invention.

But don't forget, as a woman you can't get a divorce without being destituted, the marriage law/ domestic violence action against you, can't inherit your father's property, can't choose a job other than a governess or a prostitute, your wellbeing depended entirely or the paterfamilas of the family you were born/ married to, starving yourself on a daily basis and fitting into a corset that jeopardised pregnancy... But yes, manners were important (no sarcasm intended)

Tom Lefroy knew he was dependent on his uncle's wealth as he had none. Lefroy led Jane Austen on knowing that his family would separate them & put Lefroy in an arranged marriage. Jane was Lefroy's emotional mistress. Real life in Lefroy's world was marrying someone who brought wealth & position to his family. It took many years for Jane to figure that out but I'm sure she did & in her Pride & Prejudice she deliberately made Mr. Darcy a man whose parents had died young & he was independently wealthy.

I saw these Amish clothes at the mall on the bus this year. I am modern menoite. We call it a farmer. We buy clothes that are mass produced. Maybe take your people out of under the table cupboard kids. And go to college and get a student wardrobe. It is a twenty inch suitcase. Check air Canada for the size of the suitcase with wheels.
