One of my favorite designs. I absolutely love the ceiling and brick wall. I understand why he tucked all the storage and washer in bed unit. The unit divides the space nicely without destroying the sense of overall space the way a loft bed would. If you put in a Murphy bed and closets on walls it would look like a bowling alley. His design defines three rooms. I would recommend two identical rectangular person tables in front of tv and mirror that could be joined together or end to end for larger gatherings. And kitchen doors that slide into walls. Or maybe a nice shade that rolls up. I would center the sink so you could have dirty dishes on one side and drain rack on other. Love the doors. Would enjoy living in such an historic building in a central location. It does give a tree house effect. Well done!

I currently live in a tiny apartment and have binge-watched a lot of these tiny apt/homes here on KZbin and this is easily in my Top 5 as far as space utilization. I personally love the placement of the bed. Having seen a lot of these straight/long studio layouts, I appreciate it when the bed does not directly look into the kitchen. It still nice to have that separation and this apt does this effectively.

I would moved the washer away from the end of the bed and towards the wall next to the sink to avoid a potential fall. As it is, that "false step" could be a safety issue since it isn't fixed in place, especially for guest who are not familiar with the furniture.

@@pau1976 It’s mostly in older houses, or even old shops, that have been converted from single family homes into (studio) apartments, and because of profit margins, the landlords feel no incentive to invest in plumbing for each unit they rent out.
@_w_w_4 жыл бұрын
This is renovated for the owner. If you are having apartments to rent out, how the heck do you install the plumbing and washer right under the bed? That is so customized that it would greatly restrict the flexibility for a lot of renters. In addition, you should wait until the plumbing/hoses age a bit and see how it difficult it is to service those items.

@peadar-o4 жыл бұрын
@@pau1976 It’s not just planning approval, which is important to ensure safe homes, but as is shown in the video, with a small space, you can plan for all the minimum required for a self-contained dwelling if you allow your imagination some leeway. The kitchen could have had a cooker & oven, but as was mentioned, the owner is an artist who also uses the place as a place to show his work, so kitchen was not at the top of his list of priorities, but a washing machine of his own was. I guess that is luxury of being the owner, as opposed to being the tenant.

Stylish, thoughtful, artful - inspiring. I like how the mullions of the glass doors are mimicked in the lines of the mirror. It ties the two features together. Well placed mirrors are a big space changer. I like how the tile design was random and added to an open feel. If it had been a set pattern you could map out the dimensions with your eyes and the space would feel smaller. Plus, the tile design was altered to offer the feel of an area rug and loosely define the sitting area for the loveseat. Plus, the kitchen divider pattern tied in with the floor tile. Also, the materials used brought in an outdoor feel -stone sink, wood cabinets/shelves, reflected and direct view of trees, white walls with a large mirror to bounce the light around. Also, the 5 inches of depth in the wall was put to good and diverse use. Well done!

Separate tables for eating and for workspace could be folded against the wall. I like the use of the cavities in the wall which are often overlooked.
