Should have spread straw on that grass. Birds will eat the seed and with heavy rain can wash the seed away. Water it twice a day till it comes up. Usually 7 to 10 days.

I had a thought that maybe you could put an outdoor hose bib near the new barn so if you need to use a hose or pressure wash or water the new seed you can do that easily. Thanks for the video. Love seeing all the new things going on around the farm.

Every thing looks great! You guys have worked very hard for this new barn, curtains, and pasture for the cows too. Amazing work. Bale shredder looks like it helps. Love how the cows 🐄 dance in the new bedding - they seem so happy. Makes for good milk 🥛. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing your daily dairy life. God bless!!

I saw that when you tried to shred the first bale you "unrolled" it basically, so maybe you could consider the "wrapping direction" (the direction, in which the straw layers of the bale were wound when creating the bale) and then try to load the bale once in one direction and once in the opposite, and see which way gets you the best results when shredding it.

That is a great idea. Probably talking to the designer might be worthwhile. I saw your same observations, and was thinking the hydraulics were put in backward. I think just running it so the top knives rotate toward the machine would keep the bale in the box. But Eric was saying he was running it back and forth. I guess the angle of the box might have an effect also. This may take a while....

I was noticing the same thing and wondered about the direction of the roll, new designs take some work to get the kinks out, still looks like an awesome machine

Seems to me to be more trouble than it's worth. You already had the bale on the loader to bring it outside. Seems like he could have just taken it inside the barn and kick it apart faster than it takes to load that contraption.
@jimc4731
@jimc4731 3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, consult with the shredder maker and see if the knife rolls can rotate in alternate direction in adjacent rolls. That is one roll clockwise and the next counter clockwise. That might keep the bale from jumping around. Also make the blades shorter for less aggressiveness. Just some ideas. Keep up the good work! JIM

That bale buster needs a top grapple to make loading a one man operation. Looks awfully hard to see over/under/around, though.

Just put the bales against the barn and scoop away. Visibility through the underside is probably better than what the camera picks up.

Excellent video. Bale shredder/spreader should be worth purchasing. Just keep that grass constantly moist with sprinklers until it germinates and it will be fine.

Years ago I modified a shredder by adding a joystick controlled reversing solenoid to each hydraulic motor. The joysticks allowed individual manual control with the intent to sort out a reliable automatic sequence of operation. Their daughter got so good with the joysticks that a timed pulse setting on the PTO was all the additional automation I could talk them into. Your shredder can be much more civilized.

I know it’s a increased/added expense but I would definitely go with sawdust/wood shaving to bed that barn. I know it makes sense to use the stubble bales since it’s a by-product but they have little to no absorbency characteristics. I’m no big authority on this but have been in a similar situation. There’s a lot of different ways and materials to create a productive bed pack if you will.

This may sound better in my head, and doesn’t sort out getting the netting off the bales. But instead of taking the bales completely out of the storage barn, you could roll them down the new ramp y’all had poured and straight into the spreader in one motion 🤷🏽‍♂️ just my initial thought for loading

I have to wonder. Do you really need to take the netting off the bails? Wouldn't the spreader just collect netting on the knives or chop them up to some point? I realize they are not sharp knives, but does the netting matter when it is just used in bedding or do cows also eat the straw bedding?
