This reminds me of those ultra-refined geisha dances, but with old Indian glamour. Very hypnotic to watch.

I know this is a sacred dance, sometimes performed without an audience, as an offer to the gods. Can someone tell me please what teh two ladies in front and and at the end of the group represent?
@hida684 жыл бұрын
Those two ladies are usually the teacher who supervise them dancing., aside that usually there are four ladies., like the "supervisor" since the dance are long enough preventing some blank during performance, because recently the dance had been simplified to only 40-45" but during the old days, some Bedoyo dance can take up to 2-3 hours long., another task is to collect or repair any accessories that may loose/fall from the dancers during the performance., they bought "knife" at the old days as for guarding the dancers - thats so far I know; and off course they are so called "the guard" of the dancer itself
@didyhuft48024 жыл бұрын
those two are accompanists of the dancer. because this dance is sacred. and make sure the dancers perform the dance properly, or help to put on jewelry that doesn't quite fit. they are also dance teachers.

I think tradition should be left to the people that developed it. Anything else is a distraction to the authenticity and heritage.

Anyone who thinks culture is static doesn't understand culture. It's permeable.

Man, I hate to be disrespectful. But that was brutal. I gave it a real effort. I watched for a solid 20 minutes without skipping around. I was waiting for something to happen. Nothing ever did. Then I went skipping around. This dance never picks up any intensity. So I saved myself 25 minutes I guess. I would have been the guy in the audience who fell asleep. And I generally like traditional dances.
@azusavalerian83064 жыл бұрын
Of course, it is not your choice. This kind of dance is more to philosophy. Not telling an event, so it didn't had any climax. That's what I observed
@mahler584 жыл бұрын
So what would you want to happen? Don't you like the beautiful rhythm and the flowing movement of the music and the dancers? It's hypnotic!
@nicholasrumengan31304 жыл бұрын
You know that this kind of this dance is from keraton (central java/Yogyakarta) that used have a calming and slowly movment. If you like energetic and mysthical, you can find it from West java or east java especially Banyuwangi.

FYI., the story, lesson and phylosophy lies on the lyrics sang by all the singers., indeed., as sacred dance where Bedhaya are commonly performed in front of the Sultan., IMO the "soul" itself and the atmosphere are not fit outside the palace., just that might give you a glimpse
@hida684 жыл бұрын
@@azusavalerian8306 and yes, the Bedhoyo dance is more like a "story telling"., not a figure performance., the story are being sang by the singers., and believe in a Javanese culture, "the soul"/spirit withstand the dance are not follows as it across the ocean.,
