I think the duality of Caribert being selfless when it came to comforting the hilichurls and being selfish in the bigger picture perfectly encapsulates his character. Because first and foremost, he is a child of Khaenri'ah. Of course he would care about his own cursed people rather than wonder about the Abyss Sibling's plans in using the Loom of Fate against the rest of the world. The gods had forsaken and even persecuted his homeland, while the other nations did not give a damn other than using them as an example in their history books, the sinners who defied the Heavenly Principles. Furthermore, he was a child when he basically died and his consciousness only matured in a virtual reality. Why would he consider the good of the world he never even knew? He only learned to care about Vimara Village because he became a part of that community through implanted memories. He is both selfless and selfish, as well as naive to the point of being ignorant; which makes him a great character for an NPC because he holds such depth that it makes him realistic and relatable.

I understand why ppl dislike the whole memory erasure trope, but it just makes this quest even more tragic, and makes the story of the twins even more devastating and so well done. I hv a feeling that the writers did this due to mentioning ‘the sea of flowers at the end’ it’s definitely very endgame stuff and Traveler already knowing about this would be crazy, so allowing the player base to know but not the Traveler would be justified in my opinion! Also Caribert came in clutch with that photo, so thankfully the Traveler knows that we reunited just not the conversation that occurred. Also Lumine mentioned ‘you wanted to find a place in the universe where that one flower was in full bloom’ when taking about arriving in the sea of flowers, very interesting.. It’s definitely something to think about for sure 🤔
@jonathannigel89795 ай бұрын
For me, I think the fact the Loom of Fate could "tamper" the Descender's memory means they operate in higher level than Irminsul already. Which is the most interesting piece of the quest imo outside of the lore drop. It opens up so many question and possibilites in the future in for sure
@kacperwoch43685 ай бұрын
It's only tragic from the perspective of the player, unlike previous cases of memory erasure, this time literally noone knows the siblings met. I can't see why this was necessary, the new knowlage isn't something spoilery since they told us, the players, even the Sea of Flowers will prolly only make sense at the very end. This whole memory erasure only creates a dissonance between what the player knows and what the Traveler knows.
@Fatimazahra-ld8vk5 ай бұрын
Haven't seen the full video yet but thank you!! Finally someone with the same thoughts as mine, i was wondering if i'm the only person who linked the memory thing with "the sea of flowers at the end", i also think the traveler realized something about it that we the players can't fully know, especially with their wish to find a place like that before they come to teyvat. And we already know from the travail trailer that it's end game stuff

I think that memory wipe is necessary because of the sea of flowers that Lumine have seen Maybe the real identities of the twins are related to Teyvat

Yeah I agree, the usage of the trope is important, here its not used to set back the characters knowledge since we didn't learn much honestly, its used more as an emotional hit. So its much more understandable of a use. Its sad. but its not setting us back god knows how long. It also helps that we only lose the memory of like a 10 minute long meeting instead of hours of progress.

the title of the quest "bedtime story" makes so much sense if u think about it. the twins reuniting in a "dream-like" setting then the traveler wakes up not remembering what their conversation was about but felt like something really happened is basically like us irl whenever we dream something but can't recall it once we wake up also the place the sibling told them is supposed to be the last destination of traveler's journey so remembering it won't make them feel the same joy/surprise as their sibling did

The picture at last isn't a memory that caribert left behind to the MC ,instead it's caribert weaving two different interactions of him with either siblings. Both siblings would only remember it as they've only met caribert ,while in reality,one of them haven't as they've met each other instead. This is the first usage of *LOOM OF FATE* in its lowest potential.
@nookpurin5 ай бұрын
in my opinion, yes i agree that caribert was selfish to use the loom of fate solely for his goal and then let it be complete in the hands of someone he doesn’t rly know and that he has no idea what’ll be done with the loom, but also… why wouldn’t he be? he doesn’t care about the big picture plan- he died for the sake of it, and he is understandably resentful of that fact and so he wanted to experience living a normal life if even just through people’s memories. his ultimate goal was a selfless one too- to help and comfort other hillichurl after he experience the same mental anguish they all must be experiencing. i think this gives great nuance to his character instead of just being this puppet to the abyss who did what he was told bc he had no other choice- no, he used the loom of fate for his own desires which is way more, well, human. it sets up the idea that in times of conflict, people are nothing but pawns for those with more power to use for their own means, something that the abyss twin comments on when they talk about caribert with us. i like the idea of both celestia and the abyss order having very flawed methods of achieving their goals, however noble and “for the greater good” they think those goals may be

the thing that fucks me up is that basically Khaenri'ah themselves did it to themselves, they should hate the sinners instead, yes the HP did indeed attack Khaenri'ah, but Khaenri'ah did something to be attacked by them, doesnt make it better that one sinner told cariberts father to make the abyss order and the sibling being part of it. We Know that gold took part in it and now we know that all of them most likely did, so is it now HP fault for taking away cariberts life like the sibling wants to tell us or is it Khaenri'ah's sinners fault for starting shit?

I think Dain failed to tell Lumine about the sinners and now Lumine acts as the princess of the abyss. I enjoyed the quest. SPOILER- A couple things I took from this quest: 1.) We knew Rhinedottir was a cause of the cataclysm, but now we "know" there were 5 sinners. Skirk name-dropped the first three while Dain just named the last two as well as identified the crystal, who was previously named by Skirk. Since they were name dropped, if we follow patterns, the other 2 have been referenced already somewhere and/or will be explained more in Natlan. 2.) There are parallels here of the abyss twin making the same "mistake" as Nibelung, Deshret, and the sinners by using the abyss. 3.) My theory is that Paimon is/is related to the Heavenly Principles. This makes us guided by the Heavenly Principles while our twin may be guided by the abyss.

The Loom of Fate had the power to change the world as you said, why would he not give it to the person fighting for people like him who was cursed? Why would he not give it to the person he trusted to do something about how they have been wronged? I think if I was part of an oppressed group, and I was handed a power like that, there's no one else I'd give it to but the person resisting that oppression. It was just a bonus that in the process, he was able to offer comfort to the ones who also suffered like he did. To him, he wasnt strong enough to wield the full power of the loom of fate, but he still tried to do something to the best of his abilities. Anyway, this was a short but sweet quest.

1:03:03 i gotta disagree here, yeah caribert doesnt know exactly what's gonna be done, but he knows lumine will use it to go against celestia who in his perception took away the life he and countless others could have had. he probably hates celestia and knowing someone will use that weapon to attack celetia is probably more than enough reason to complete and hand over the weapon. celestia hasnt exactly done good on teyvat, taking it down is probably a good cause to him. it's selfish because he has a personal vendetta but it;s also not purely selfish 'cause he's helping take down who he sees as a bad guy. calling him dumb as fuck is a very questionable take imo.

In the memory/dream, soon after Caribert is gone, Lumine phases through Aether. But at the end of the dream/memory, she put her hand on Aether's head and there's no blue sparkles like before, meaning she's actually touching him. The absence of Caribert is complete when they touch the 2nd time because the photo that we have is taken when they're still sitting together, and that is presumably the last thing he did. After that someone else had to be the conscience inside the Loom of Faith, and since Aether doesn't remember about these scenes, there was only one other person/conscience in that place at that time

Kaeya: “Khaenri'ah, huh? You sure know a lot! The legacy of Khaenri'ah is long gone. The sinners are all that's left, and they're not worth mentioning.” This is from one of Kaeya’s voicelines. And after 4.7 you realise: He knows who the sinners are and despises them the same way Dain does. The fact that this voiceline has been here since the beginning of the game is crazy and we are only discovering the context behind it now… Kaeya 100% knows more than he ever lets on, so him saying he doesn’t know much about Khaenri’ah in the previous Dain quest was a complete lie. And this quest just raised more questions into who Kaeya is: -Caribert died at 8 years old so Kaeya is not him nor is he descended from him. - Caribert’s appearance is based on what his father believed he would look like which is awfully similar to Kaeya with the dark blue hair and the single blue earring each of them wear on their left ear. (Pierro also wears a single blue earring on his left ear as well). -Dainsleif says the 5 sinners were the ‘hopes’ of Khaenri’ah. Kaeya is also called the ‘last hope’ so what does that make Kaeya?… Overall every Dain quest just gives us more questions to Kaeya, Khaenri’ah and his lore than answers.

People who get upset with this quest don't seem to understand how exactly the memory loss thing makes sense. I'll explain it in two simple points. 1.) Regarding the loss of memory in itself, it makes sense when you consider that Caribert's memory is held up by his own consciousness and looped around a false Irminsul, made by the loom of fate. If it were made by integrating his consciousness with the real Irminsul, then yes, the traveler would've remembered beyond the boundaries of the space. But since it was created with the help of the loom's false Irminsul, it causes the traveler to forget. People have tried to use the Scaramouche and Rukkhadevata things as an excuse to hate on this quest, but again, using a false Irminsul made with the loom of fate causes there to be a different understanding. 2.) Regarding the specifics of forgetting the reunion, but not Caribert, this is easy to explain. Caribert himself was the one channeling his consciousness through the false Irminsul, meaning that when he disappeared (i.e. before lumine got there), the traveler wouldn't remember anything following because the domain was already collapsing in on itself. Slowly but surely, the space was falling apart, and the abyss twin only had a little bit to talk with their sibling. This is also why they didn't drop any major lore here and chose to just sit and talk, because the abyss twin knew their sibling would forget. If it were longer, I would've liked it better, but for the lore drops and the fact that I get to feel smart, 9.5/10

To make it clear, Focalor's plan was not to fool the Heavenly Principle, but only to fool the Heavenly Principle's preordained verdict. It means that the Heavenly Principle casted a unescapable spell upon Fontainian's fate and the spell it self will be fulfilled whether or not the Heavenly Principle is looking at them. So even if the Heavenly Principles are "sleeping", the spell it self will still take effect. So what Focalor did was fooled the spell only and not the Heavenly Principle themselves. Also mean that Focalor knew that the Heavenly Principles were sleeping all along.

I agree with Bran's take on Caribert being selfish but not for the same reason. First of all, Caribert doesn't have any means of "holding" the Loom of Fate, he said it himself, he's just a very miniscule part of it, he doesn't even understand nor could he see the scope of its capabilities. He only has one goal for it and for him to be able to do that is to ask our sibling to complete the Loom so he did what he did...he needs to act fast too because his "individuality" is dissipitating (well based on what I understood) that's why he did what he did, he is selfish in that regard, he's not selfish for handing over a device he didn't even know or comprehend the full power of. He's pure and single minded, he just wants to give the Hillichurls comfort, he is selfish and not at the same time. Also it's not as if he can actually give the Loom to Aether, he can't even touch it, he can't exist on the outside world where the Loom exist, so I think him giving Lumine the ability to do that is the selfish part, for him, his wish is more important because that's the only thing he can do now...he's already dead anyway.

Here's the thing: Caribert is not in control...despite the fact that he is able to harness the power of the loom, he really is just a vessel...whose existence should have been gone long ago. He was only able to hold on to it for so long for his personal goal but it wouldn't change the out come. That being said: WITH or WITHOUT him, the Abyss twin or the abyss faction will complete the loom of fate, it is bound to happen. it just the matter of time or different means to aquire the eye from Dain... So Caribert really didnt have a choice. All he can do is just ride along and achive his own goal. Its not the matter of him being selfish or not

Atleast Caribrt apologized for his actions which he admitted he's aware of were selfish, we never got an apology from Egeria for basically being responsible for the prophecy about the fall of Fontaine by rising sea-levels happening cause she had been too giving to the Oceanids who wanted soooo much more than these lives they were given by Egeria in the first place leaving Neuvillette and Focalors/Furina to clean up her mess.

So... purely speculation on my part, but I've been thinking about this for a while now - ever since we found out at the end of the Fontaine AQ what the gnoses were... "The remains" of the third descender, whom... we still not sure who it is, but we know we - the Traveler - are the fourth. Now... bear with me, what if... what if our Abyss sibling WAS the third descender, and what if the reason why they seem to resonate so well with the Abyssal energies/powers is because the balance of that - the light realm/all our elemental resonance was literally piecemeal removed from them and used by the Primodial One (the first) and Heavenly Principles (the second) to create the gnoses? I know the gnoses technically predate our arrival to Teyvat, but we already know that time is fluid in this world, and there's been timey-wimey stuff before (the Great Narukami Shrine's sakura tree) and there's been some speculation that there's some ability to manipulate space and/or time by the earlier descenders? AND it would explain why our sibling has been etched into Irminsul as belonging to this world - if the gnoses/elemental piece of them had gotten whisked back to near the start and embedded as part as an integral part of the world. And their remainder, the abyssal piece of them, is now the only remaining piece and therefore taken in by the Abyss, which we know predates Teyvat and existed in the world as the opposite of the light realm that the Dragons were part of. Anyway, this has just been circling my brain for a while now, and I'm probably COMPLETELY off/wrong, but I felt like I finally had to put this out there.
@goldielocks90924 ай бұрын
I like this theory. I am lowkey sure the Abyss twin is the third descender. Also, like, something I have noticed is that when the twins came to this world (I chose Lumine so I'll give Lumine's example), the flowers lumine wears on her head glowed white. After our traveller wakes up in Tevyat for the first time, the flowers were lightless, they didn't glow at all. Then when we resonated with the Anemo statue and got the power of Anemo, they glowed teal. Similarly, for each region, they glow the respective color of the element, orange for geo, purple for electro, blue for hydro. My theory was always that when we get to the end of the story, and are able to use all the elements, they'll glow white again, i.e., all our powers will be back. It also makes it look like the elemental powers really are a piece of our powers, split into seven parts. Maybe that's why the traveller doesn't even need a vision. I might be blabbering but it was just something that was on my mind for a long time. Also, I don't know if it's true or not, but do you think that our sibling died during their journey. I don't know why but I feel like our sibling died, and what we see is some bodily manifestation of their conscious or something or I don't know. I can also be entirely wrong.

I think this quest finally gave me confirmation on an issue I’ve been wondering about; how many hilichurls have we killed that were once former citizens of Khaenri’ah? Cuz Hilichurls were a monster species before the curse, so it’s not guaranteed that we’re harming innocents from Khaenri’ah. And whenever a quest highlights the cursed hilichurls, it’s usually in situations where we’re unable to hurt them, like how you can’t damage them in this quest. But we can kill Abyss Order enemies all the livelong day because they’re an antagonistic faction in the game, like regular monster hilichurls are. It’s like the distinction between the Fatui and the House of the Hearth, they’re linked but they don’t serve the same role in story and gameplay. Going forward, maybe cursed hilichurls will be peaceful, affected by Caribert’s actions in this quest, setting them apart from regular monster hilichurls.

Pretty much Celestia/heavenly principal has been asleep for 500 years probably because of the cataclysm Meaning, when she was fighting the twins, she was pretty much weaken and probably damaged , pretty much by the monsters from the abyss that came from Khaenri’ah, and after she sealed us away, which was the last of her power fell asleep and has been asleep for 500 years. It would explain why the Fatui are planning to attack Celestia, meaning they might be working with the abyss order because they both have grudge against Celestia. Which is why they’re attacking now , while they still can, but something tells me it’s not gonna work the way they think. I think the war is gonna happen in Natlan the fire nation or Pyro nation, all hell about to break loose literally. Because the heavenly principal is about to wake up.🤔🤔🤔🤔😱😱😱😱

And also, with this story quest, we kinda see how Lumine is not THAT evil as we originally suspected her to be. Maybe the only reason Dainslef wanted to stop her is because he didn't want her to get involved in a plan against the Heavenly Principle since it would probably be suicidal as fuck to do so, which explained why he doesn't wanna raised his sword against her but also can't go along with her probably suicidal plan against the Heavenly Principle. But I'm not talking for the entirety of the Abyss but only for Lumine, I mean... the Abyss is evil, but maybe Lumine plan on doing something that alter their plan in the end, maybe.
@zulzul-c1r5 ай бұрын
I mean, Dainsleif is probably worried that the Heavenly Principle might just turn Teyvat upside down, which is why he avoids provoking them and tries to hold the Abyss from doing so as well.

"The Sea of Flowers at the End" reminded me of that scene from the Teyvat chapter storyline preview, where we see first Lumine with Aether, and then Aether (traveler) alone among the "sea" of flowers. I wonder if that is the place where it all actually ends? Because it was the end of the Abyss siblings' journey. But what will happen then? I guess we just need to wait a few years 😂
@boss_one5 ай бұрын
After doing the quest, I wonder what is really the Loom of Fate? Is it a device, a machine, an ideology, an alien entity, a prophecy? We don't really know, as it is not much explained even by Caribert. Now that it's complete, by what degree will it affect between the siblings who are longing to be reunited but belonged on the complete opposite sides? The fact that this offset Traveler quest is the oxymoron of the "We Will Be Reunited" quest, makes it more dreadful than before. Almost, but still away, until the main reason is not solved or eradicated. As of now, only Nahida revealed the entity of the Traveler, and Skirk revealed a bit of past of the entity before the existence of the Traveler. It's either more revelations will be unfolded at Natlan, a hard truth at Snezhnaya, or a complete detail at Khaenri'ah (if it is showed as a independent arc). But in general sense, the Traveler quest is dark on its own. 😕 Edit PS: Regarding the five Sinners, they are actually hinted from Kaeya (entry IV). And connecting the dots, three of them caused trouble on Teyvat. Could be a possibility that these Sinners know something about Celestia, knowing the fact that no archon talks about them at all? 🤔

I definitely agree Caribert was selfish in the way that he accomplished his goal, and said 'damn the consequences'. Said goal was what redeemed him a little, but what he wanted in the end was to satisfy himself knowing he comforted the souls suffering like he did. He didn't work for the greater good, otherwise he would have been more careful about finishing the loom of fate, not knowing how it will be sued by our sibling. edit : I honestly have never misspelled used as sued...hope it doesn't start now

Plus, Caribert doesn't really know what to do with it, and as he said, he doesn't even belong to this world, so changing stuff is undeserved for him. The final wish for him is to literally comfort other Hilichurl, like his father did to him back then. What I want to say is, I don't think he can do anything about the plan, nor has the power to manipulate the Loom of Fate itself. He struggled to even make the subconscious space, so I don't know if he's able to do anything more than manipulating simple memories, and sending out voices to the hilichurls

My guess is that the pieces that the 6 exceptional individuals are holding are similar to the gnosis. While the gnosis are the parts of the 3rd descenrder, the the one the Sinners + Dain is holding onto is probably the piece of Nibelung (after it got defeated a 2nd time). And together they can recreate the Dragon of the Abyss. In fact, I would go as far as to say that Dainsleif's piece is in the shape of a ring based on what we learned in the Pari world quest in sumeru where He was seen clutching a ring, immediately after the Khaenriah disaster. If this is true then We have the Fatui that gathers the gnosis to build their 3rd descender lego set, while the Sinner gang wants Dain to handover his piece to finish their Nibelung lego set.

It came to my mind after lumine said that the flower grew in teyvat, Lumine(abyss twin) is a part of this world according to irminsul but our sibling is not part of this world. Could it be that the twins originally came from teyvat but irminsul/the twins etc forgot for some reason that they came from teyvat but for some reason irminsul remembers our twin and made her part of the world again or something happened to our twin that made irminsul register our twin as part of this world. either way it's interesting how the flower that she has is located at teyvat and that they were searching for it on their journey but didn't found it the first time they travelled teyvat before they lost their powers.

@anaplaysstuff5 ай бұрын
I don't think there's any reason to believe the curse takes effect retroactively. Every Khaenri'ahn was affected 500 years ago, that doesn't have to mean anyone with that bloodline in the present is also cursed. The interesting thing to figure out is how that bloodline got passed on. Either those nobles who got cursed with immortality can still have children or something else happened. Perhaps, since Clothar found a way to break the curse of immortality before he died he fathered another child. Or I had a thought last year that Caribert was his illegitimate child but nothing in the quest disproved the idea that he could have actually had a noble, pureblood wife and a child(ren) with her and it's from one of them that Kaeya is descended.
