I did an overnight stake-out of Borley churchyard with two friends in the mid 70s. Two of us settled down near the south wall of the church while the other slept in the car. When it was time for shift change my companion went back to the car (some distance away) leaving me temporarily alone. All was silent. Then I heard a sound on the gravel path running round the building. There was a light stirring of the pebbles, as something stealthily approached the corner. Just about keeping it together I reached for my camera. And there it stood........ a cat.

Hadn't thought about the Borley Rectory in years! This brought me straight back to when i was 9 or 10 and obsessed with ghosts, i would buy up all the books of ghost stories i could, they were always the same common English ghost stories like the Borley Rectory, Pluckley village etc. but i would still buy every one i found, and everywhere i went i would bring my "ghost hunting equipment" (camera, camcorder and a multitude of compiled ghost stories) even made my family take me on a pilgrimage to Pluckley once or twice. i never came up with anything but i had a lively imagination and i had fun. This is a thorough and fair summary of the paranormal history of the rectory. I lived not far from Borley and cycled there as a boy during summer as the views and fields were beautiful in that part of Suffolk. At that time in the early 1970s, the rectory was just a ruin, long after the fire in the late 1930s. However, I can tell you, standing there as a boy, I just knew something was there, the church is also very haunted. A BBC radio crew got very scared during a tape recording in the mid 70s. In the 1980s a tudor brick tunnel was discovered near the rectory, it was believed to connect to the church but not unfortunately fully excavated. A new building was erected in the late 1980s and is there today.

My grandfather, Dr. John Budge Alexander, attended old Mrs. Bull in the 1920s when he was the G. P. practising in Sudbury. He once found her on the floor of her bedroom with the mattress and the bedstead on top of her. When he had put all in order he left, and as he walked down the curved staircase a vase was thrown after him. The frightening thing was that the vase followed the curve of the staircase. In those days people used to call on each other, and leave visiting cards. My grandmother called on Mrs. Bull one day, and when she got up to leave, found that her gloves, which she had placed on her handbag, were missing. Mrs. Bull said calmly: "I wonder where he" (the poltergeist) "is hiding things today.". The gloves were eventually discovered in the chimney. My grandparents told my father, born in 1918, these stories, and he told me.

You guys always do your due diligence, and still produce captivating stories. You don't suggest that ghosts/aliens/cryptids are to blame. You present theories and allow us to come to our own conclusions. As far as hauntings are concerned, everyone has a motive. I've never seen an article written about a person (or couple) that moved into a house and had an uneventful stay. If you say the ghosts are hurting you or your children, however, that gets a lot of attention.

Liked your video and have now subscribed. The reason for writing. In the video I saw you mentioned Borley Rectory which sparked a memory. Around 1978 I visited Borley with my husband, 2 friends and the 3 year child of our friends. I only mention this as or has bearing on the story I will now relate to you. We and our friends went to this place, it is very eerie with the remains of the rectory and the church and graveyard directly opposite, this fact is relevant as anyone that has visited this site would confirm you would certainly notice if anyone was about. My husband at that time was doing photography as a hobby at college so was taking photos of everything. I never took much notice of the end product, but found myself looking through the photos a couple of years later. Directly in front of my husbands camera stood a young woman, top half as clear as a solid person, but no bottom half as you can see the fence through where her legs should be. I would love to send this photo to you but do not know how, can you advise.

I remember when I was 7 years old I red about Borley Rectory, all I remember is that the last sentence of that book said “Borley Rectory was torn down”. I forgot about that for a long time, I’m a huge fan of paranormal stuff, and nothing really managed to scare me. A few years later I remembered that book, and I got shivers down my spine when I remembered the name “Borley Rectory”. This continued to happen until I decided to look it up again to maybe find out why I’m still so scared of this place. I read about it, I learnt everything I could about it, and I knew that nothing of that was scary for my standards, I couldn’t comprehend my irrational fear for that place. To this day, I’m still too terrified to say that name out loud, and I’m still confused as to why. This got too long so give yourself a high five if you read this all.

In 2007 I put myself in a rehab because I'm an alcoholic. After my 4 month stay there I moved into a halfway house. The halfway house was next to a massive Catholic church and it belongs to the church. It used to be a nunnery. The property and church are around 250 years old. Anyways...i lived there for about 6 months and the first 3 months alone. At nighttime I would hear footsteps down the halls... Every night. I was so afraid I used to pee in water bottles in my room because I was afraid to walk down the hallway to the bathroom. I have witnessed things...objects flying across the room and voices. Other people whom have stayed there all have similar stories . I met a girl and moved out. Never felt threatened but I was definitely freaked out.

My friend and found an old book in the library about this when we were kids. (waaay back in the 80's) We were really into ghosts and weird shit but for some reason we became slightly obsessed with Borley and it really screwed us up for a few years. My friend couldn't have a mirror in her room because of one of the pictures in the book and we constantly obsessed about that frickin' nun. I couldn't look out of a window without imagining her face staring through the window. This went on into our early teens. To be fair, I had been brought up on a healthy diet of ghost stories and horror movies so that probably didn't help. I actually no longer believe in ghosts. Probably burned out the fear part of my brain ;)

Borley is one of those places that looks like it should be haunted, even if it isn't!Very fascinating story, though.

I think most people would be surprised by the amount of dead people that are buried in quite close proximity to them. Skeletons are often found in peoples gardens, under buildings and it is common practice where suspected burials may be present to conduct archaeological surveys of the area, prior to the construction of new buildings.

When I was a 9 year old in 1972 my parents got me the Guinness Book of Records for Christmas and Borley Rectory was listed in there as 'the world's most haunted house!' Totally fired my imagination as a child and I always wanted to visit the grounds. Still would!

Love this! The intro, the story, the art, the whisper. I really think this is perfect. I love when you guys have just that little bit of movement in some parts. Like the one episode with the clouds. Love your channel!

Good to see you kept the titles, it didn't have the same kind of X-Files vibe without them

I totally believe in ghosts because I was brought up in a haunted house. I still regularly wake up screaming from nightmares about it 37 years after moving out of the house.

Tunnels under the church could be for escaping priests. I used to live next to a church in a small village called Ratby near Leicester and there was an old folk tale that there was a bricked up secret passage from the church which popped up under my house. That would have been built so the priest could quickly escape to the blacksmiths (what my house had been previously) and hide.

Absolutely terrifying I love these kind of old haunted stories my favorite their creepier because they have a history not cheap thrills or gore. Also I love your channel I've listened to quite a few of your stories and all are excellent and your voice and narration are exquisite 👏♥️

Literally just up the road from me! Exciting ;D I always heard lots about the rectory as a kid, and I've walked by more than a few times. It's very pretty, and quite calming. Never seen a spook, but here's hoping!

I dont particularly believe in the paranormal but Borley church really does have a spooky vibe to it. It looks exactly like the sketch in this video including the topiary. I've only ever been there at night after dropping someone off in nearby Foxearth and the mist would sit about chest height among those hedges in the churchyard adding to the atmosphere.

Two in one week? You're spoiling us, but I like it!😁 Would you consider doing the body in boiler #9? It's screaming for an explanation. This is hands down the most underrated channel on KZbin!
