Another great love song of theirs is To Love Somebody, written when Barry was 20 and Robin and Maurice (twins) were 17. It is such a deep and meaningful song to be written by ones so young. They were just very special.

The Bee Gees, my late wife’s favourite band. They are/were immensely talented, not just the singing but their song writing too. If you haven’t already reacted to their song Too Much Heaven, then you are missing a treat. The official video is shot in a studio with the guys surrounded by a full orchestra and it’s a master class in harmonising at a time when auto tune didn’t exist. Also take a look at the album that the guys wrote (mainly Barry) for Barbra Streisand, called Guilty. Some well known songs on it, four of which were released as singles. ❤

Saeed, we had it so lucky in my teenage years, and did not know it until 50 years have passed and we try to grasp something from today's supposedly "talent." The 60's , 70's, were blessed with some of the most wonderful musicians of the century. I'm so thrilled to watch you young people hear and appreciate what we had back in the "good old days." Enjoy, my young friend.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ_MiYaebNuKiKs Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnCm2xmm6h8oZY, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJerhoZrgstjZrM. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Wcp4V-iLyBmM0. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXdHykedOHoZo. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2eVeJ93etWZqLs. Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3zHc4mBmLiGidk which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWewg2B7lLatsJI And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

Song was composed early in the morning on the 26 of August 1977 at the Chateau de Heroville, near Paris. Blue Weaver sat at the piano, where Chopin had already composed music one hundred years before, Barry hummed a melody and suddenly the first rays of sunshine shone through the big windows in the room and the most beautiful love song in pop history was born: "How Deep Is Your Love". kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3Koo3WKnJyHpac Björn Ulveaus of ABBA said he turned green with envy when he first heard the song. It was the song where you could literally see something in front of you, this tune was one year in the Billboard Charts and the Grammy Academy, which also awarded this pop ballad as best of all time 2015

Ah the Brothers Gibb...Barry is the eldest, then twins Maurice and Robyn and young brother Andy came along later as a solo artist. Moved to Australia as young kids....Australia adopted them to our hearts. The Bee Gee's wrote so many hit songs not only for themselves but for huge artists like Celine Deon, Barbra Streisand, Dianna Ross, Dion Warwick, Dolly Parton etc etc. Barry is the only one left now you must check out a very rare duet he did with Michael Jackson called "All In His Name"

--------------------- They wrote ALL their own music as well as for other artists. I’m not sure if you’ve reacted to any of these, but here’s a list with my interpretation of what genre I think they fall under: Too Much Heaven (R&B) Went to #1 How Deep Is Your Love (R&B Ballard), went to #1. You just reacted to this one. Staying Alive (disco), went to #1 Night Fever (disco), went to #1 You Should Be Dancing (R&B or disco), went to #1 Fanny be tender with my love (R&B). Quincy Jones said this was his favorite R&B song. It’s a favorite of mine too. Jive Talking (R&B), went to #1 Nights on Broadway (R&B/Funk)..you’ll hear the brothers “natural” voices in this song. Tragedy (Techno? Pop) you just reacted to this. It also went #1 More than a woman (Disco/R&B) One of the best love songs ever made! Love you inside out (Funk/pop), went to #1 To love somebody (R&B) One of their earlier hits, from 1967!!! You’ll see how young they were. Massachusetts (pop/country), went to #1 Wind of Change (funk/r&b), live 1975 from the Midnight Special or live from their 1979 Spirits tour. They sing in their natural voices on this song. Alone (pop): One of the songs they made late in their career. Love So Right (R&B), One of Barry’s best falsetto songs ever. Words (pop, 1979 Spirits Tour). Barry pours his heart out on this song and they show his wife & son on screen some while he was performing it. Lonely Days (pop). One of the first songs they wrote after they got back together when they briefly broke up in 1969 then got back together in 1970 to write this. You Win Again (pop), If you want to hear some 80’s Bee Gees, this is a good one. Went #1 in the UK Run to Me (pop) How Can you mend a broken heart (R&B). The other song they wrote when they first got back together after a brief breakup. It was also their first #1 in the US Kiss of Life (rock). Shows a diverse side of them. One (pop), their last top 10 hit in the US Wedding Day (pop), a single they wrote for their wives! All of them had been married for a while. Barry is will married to this day to Linda for over 53 years! Rest Your Love on Me Awhile (country). Shows diversity! Bodyguard (R&B), Robb really shines on this song that could have been played on any R&B radio station! For Whom the Bell Tolls (pop), again, Robin shines on this one. Blue Island - live (pop). This song shows the perfect blend & harmony the brothers have. Especially if you do the acoustic one. Just the 3 of them with 2 guitars! Our Love, Don't Throw it all away-Bee Gee's or Andy's version (pop). After their brother Andy passed, they started performing this during shows in honor of him. Secret Love (pop). I love the best to this song! Barry & Robin leads. This is Where I Came in (live) (pop). From the very last CD they ever released. There is a live version out there from a tv show. That's a great one to see how they have evolved into the 2000's! The 1989 One for all tour medley (excellent vocals & some humor). This is a little long (over 12 min), but they go through about 7-9 songs in this medley with just the 3 of them around 1 mic either Barry in the guitar. If you want to see them (the Bee Gees) and how they work in the studio try: (A) the making of their song "Tragedy" from 1979 (B) The making of the song "Just in Case" (C) The making of the video "This is Where I Came in" from their last cd in 2001

If you are interested in more '70's and early 80's music the soft rock bands also had some great songs, great lyrics and good compositions. Bands like REO Speedwagon, Styx, Journey, Air Supply. You are a writer! Thanks for sharing that. Thanks for the commentary. BTW Pentatonix did a live tribute to the Bee Gees. Please do other songs recorded by other artists that The Bee Gees wrote. Some include: If I Can't Have You (Yvonne Elliman) -- went to #1 Woman in Love ( Barbra Streisand)- went to #1!. In fact, The Bee Gees wrote every song on her Guilty CD, and Barry did 2 duets with her. And he did most of the background vocals on a lot of the songs. They won a Grammy for best song by a group or duo for Guilty. Islands in the Stream (Kenny Rogers & Dolly Partons) - went to #1. In fact, The Bee Gees wrote all the songs on Kenny's "Eyes that See in the Dark" CD with Barry doing a lot of background vocals. Heartbreaker (Deion Warwick). In fact, The Bee Gees wrote every song on this CD too. This was her best selling CD! The Bee Gees also did the Background vocals. Chain Reaction (Diana Ross) - went to #1 in several European countries! And yes, The Bee Gees wrote all the songs on this CD too. Barry also did the background vocals. Immortality (Celine Dion) The Bee Gees (went to number 1 in several countries),also sung background. The live 1997 from Vegas is excellent! More Than a Woman (Tavares) Love Me (Yvonne Elliman) Come on Over (Olivia Newton John) Emotions (Samantha Sang, with a lot of background vocals with Barry). Destiny's Child also recorded it. Grease--from the movie (Frankie Valli), went #1 Heart Beating in Time (Leo Sayer) Let me wake up in your arms (Lulu), who use to be married to Maurice Gibb A lot of Andy Gibb songs (Shadow Dancing, Everlasting Love, Love is Thicker than Water, Our Love, Don't Throw It Away; Desire;). Andy's 3 released solo songs all went to #1!

'Night Fever' is 🔥 The Bee Gee's wanted nothing to do with disco, they were channeling their love of the Beetles and their sound. Through a producer association, they were given the script to Saturday Night Fever, and stalled on it and never even read it...then a deadline, so they wrote FIVE songs for SNF in one weekend, just to be done with it, lol. And to me, became the face of disco. Disco died, but Stayin' Alive refused to, and grew into the monster tune it is...what an EPIC hook. Undeniable how big the song is, but as far as songwriting, I think 'Night Fever' is the better of the two. Trivia...the movie opens with Stayin Alive, and that was John Travolta's idea. He said the better song for the dance scenes was 'Night fever', so put 'Stayin' Alive' at the beginning of him just strutting down the street, although SA became the biggest song. And with having not read the script, they wrote 'Stayin' Alive' based on NY news headlines of a serial killer on the loose..."the Son of Sam". So stayin' Alive was literally about staying alive and the fear sweeping over the city of a killer on the loose. 😂

One of the best groups that ever existed. As far as I am concerned, Beatles a second rate group compared to the Bee Gees. Maybe because a lot of their stuff is about love
