You are probably thinking of Ging Gang Gooly, a popular scouts' song in the 1970s. It does sound a lot like IOIO, and is no doubt where Barry got his inspiration. It was, after all, a gibberish song, so its similarities with so much of the Bee Gees' output is obvious. What an amazing person Robert Baden-Powell must have been, for his influence to reach around the world to a bunch of young aspiring pop stars looking for song ideas. Who can forget Baden-Powell's great book, Scouting for Boys? And they say Jimmy Savile was hiding in plain sight.

BEE GEES - I.O.I.O

Great tune !!! I’ve read that Maurice Gibb was inspired by Africa when he wrote this song. But no doubt for me that he was inspired by the Beach boys’ vocal harmonies too. The vocals at the end of this catchy song are almost the same (but not in the same key) as the ones at the end of “Break away” by the Beach boys, released one year sooner.

I love this song too. I'm not native english. I understand all the lyrics except i.o.i.o what does it stand for?
@Sootaroot3 жыл бұрын
@@28Clau Actually it doesn't stand for anything. io is one of the four largest moons of Jupiter, and the Pioneer 10 spacecraft discovered that it had erupting volcanoes, at the time the only body in the solar system known to be volcanically active. The more complex Voyager 1 was launched to take a closer look, and the BBC showed a special programme to cover the event, for which the Bee Gees were commissioned to write the music, and IOIO was the main track. The presenter, Patrick Moore, did not like the music, stating that it was not right for a serious subject, despite having been friends with the Gibb brothers ever since they wrote to him as fans of his Sky at Night show soon after it started in 1957. When the Io programme was broadcast, the listings presented it as "The Sky at Night - Voyager One Reaches Jupiter, with Patrick Moore." This prompted one sharp-eyed viewer to write to the Points of View programme, asking, "Have we got rid of Patrick at last?"

I live the Bee Gees and grew up on all their great songs...but this on always cracked me up because it sounds like the Tamil and also Singlish/ Malaysia exclamation Aiyoh.... “Aiyoh” which is a commonly used word in Tamil-speaking regions across Asia, connotes disappointment, lament, surprise, and irritation. It’s a lot like saying “Oh no!” or “Damnit!”. For example - Aiyoh! I left my wallet at home.

Ever since the cloying and mawkish Massachusetts, and indeed probably even at a time before that for which evidence thankfully no longer exists, Barry Gibb has failed to understand that the more seriously he takes himself, the more ridiculous he looks, and never more so than in this grotesque video. After Robin left, the group that no longer was a group persisted to continue, solely so that Barry could have a vehicle for rubbish like IOIO. In an interview in New Musical Express, he was asked how the song came about. With great solemnity, he explained that first there were the lyrics, every word of which was torn from his soul. Then came the difficult part: putting the music to them. It would have been better if he had put a match to them, but instead they made it on to Top of the Pops, by which time Robin, his dreams of solo stardom having plunged Earthwards as if in anticipation of the Skylab space station that would shortly make landfall in Australia, recognised that Saved by the Bell did not auger well for a flourishing career, and returned to the fold. Thus, although no-one could yet know it, the stage was set for the breach of human rights that was the revival of disco. Robin, Robin, why did you not stand your ground? Someone would have bought your records.

After all, it was Barry other artists came to when looking for success & a new direction (Streisand, Warwick, Rogers, Ross)....he was just kind enough to include the twins on those projects since by then they were blacklisted due to Barry's vocals & immense talent.🎶
