In late 1967 I found myself in the army and doing Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ. Most of the guys in my platoon were from Mass. Late one night, we were getting ready to get into our bunks for our 4 or 5 hours sleep; someone had a little transistor playing and this song came on. The room just froze. I looked around and there wasn't a dry eye in the place, the song sounded more beautiful than I'd ever heard it before or since. I'll never forget that moment and will forever be grateful for the BeeGees.

Barry Brodsky, I can almost feel the room in the simple way you've told it. I am glad for you. My only other bit to add is for me many songs sound best with 1 or 2 acoustic guitars and harmony in the vocals. Did you notice Maurice playing first position open chords while Barry went up the neck.. More color and chord notes harmonizing as you also heard in their vocals. Talent and craftsmanship. These Gibb brothers are good.

Many people make the mistake of only thinking of the BeeGees disco music. They were making incredible music years before Saturday Night Fever.
@LeonAustАй бұрын
Yep and as an Aussie where they first plied their trade here and Spicks and Specks went to number 1 in early 1966 and after that it was all history. Australia was a big factor in the Bee Gees from learning the industry first here, then arriving in England late 1966 and hitching up with 2 other Aussies Vince Melouney from Billy Thorpe and the the Aztecs on guitar and child movie actor from (the Smiley movies) Colin Petersen on drums to officially join the Bee Gees. Then meeting another Australian (NEMS/The Beatles) music producer Robert Stigwood later creating (R.S.O). The only other person to officially join the Bee Gees was another Aussie called Geoff Bridgford on drums during the early 1970s.

Their "disco stuff" was perfectly written, arranged and performed dance music. Not many artists reached the peak, changed the style and again peaked. And if you listen to live recordings like "One night only": they did it because they were this good. Unmatched!
