Saw your surprise when Barry came out with his low voice. Robin is the middle and Mo ( Maurice, pronounced Morris) is the one doing the falsetto on this live. On the album it is Barry doing the falsetto, but he can't do both at the same time live. They can all do falsetto, but not sustained, Barry can do a whole song falsetto and even hold a note like that a long time. This is the 1st song that Arif Mardan, the producer at the time, asked someone to scream in tune, they were doing ad libs so Barry said he'd give it a try and everyone in the booth sat up and kept telling him to do more of that and so the mid to late 70's sound was created. As you can see Barry's voice ranges from the chest voice here to his falsetto in too much heaven, etc. They write their own songs and have written for other folks too. They have been covered and sampled by bunches of folks as well. The other brothers have great range of voice as well. They all play instruments too. But they have had no formal training! Amazing!

As they said about Maurice : He was a secret weapon , always hiding behind his brothers , always quiet and a multi instrumentalist, multi talented , the 3 of them plus Andy were incredibly singers , they used to walk the streets of Miami just like any other citizen , without body guards some times , used to do their own shopping and if you greeted them all tried to talk and say hi , they always set hello , very simple men that were real Geniuses in disguise. Awesome Real talented Musicians and great singers . Rest in Peace : Andy , Maurice & Robin. May God bless you and protect you Barry , Bee Gees we’re Unique .

None of the Bee Gees could read or write musical script even Maurice! They had no musical education at all. To use their words it was all 'organic'. They would speak of a note being an A or G etc because they could all play keyboard and guitar (self taught/friend improved) but show them a stave with dots on and that was all it was to them. Making them all the more amazing.

Robin has lead on bunches of songs, especially from the 60’s. Massachusetts is an example as well as I started a Joke. His twin brother Maurice ( pronounced Morris) is singing falsetto on the live version, but Barry does it on the recording. They all have fantastic range Barry has a soulful deep chest voice and his falsetto. Robin has an ethereal bravado, Mo is just all around talented and played bunches of instruments and mainly does backup and arrangement, but he does have some lead songs that are great as well. He preferred to be in the background. A Haunting version of Ellan Vannin done by Robin and Kings Collage Choir is fantastic ( the song is the official song for the Isle of Man ( where all three of the brothers were born).

A wonderful time to be alive and a great moment to be a rock musician in those days, but to have the Bee Gees all intrusive fame was a nightmare in my book. I used a stage name when I worked or toured. Anonymity was a warm blanket for me then. I always knew it was better have two suitcases full of money and live on ranch by the river, than to be pursued by those impressed only by the brillince of fame and not the love that shined from your heart. I'm old now, but still remember my friends plane crash, and their drug binges, beautiful but shallow women I shunned. God blessed me with good health and I'm still alive to tell the tales. God bless you too!

@@kthor - Nobody said Barry's voice wasn't amazing. Barry did not write any of "How old are you" which had the only solo hit ever by a Bee Gee (Juliet) written by Maurice and Robin and produced by Maurice. Barry had no input on "Robin's Reign", "Magnet" (except one song) or the beautiful "50 St Catherine's Drive" and had nothing to do with "The Titanic Requiem" as played by the National Philharmonic. As for this song, much of it is sung concurrently by Barry and Robin together with separate lead bits by both but that's nit picking.

Everyone watching it with me in our living room alrwady knew the song, of course -- it was a giant hit. The Bee Gees had another big hit playing on the radio at the time -- Jive Talkin' . People ragged on The Bee Gees for "selling out" not too long after this album when they went "disco". Yet every one of their disco songs are good songs. And were hits. And I, being a pure R&R'er ... then and now ... loved all of them. Good music is good music.

He did "ad libs" on this song, when they played live, and on their song "To Love Somebody", but otherwise it was Barry on the studio version. In fact, this very song is where Barry discovered he could do falsetto AND for an entire song! Their producer Arif Mardin wanted to put in-key 'screaming" towards the of the song and asked which of the brothers wanted to give it a try and Barry volunteered.
