My grandma, who just turned 93 on the 3rd, was visiting for the first time in over a year and as we were watching this I actually saw her face light up when she heard Robin’s voice. She’s not big fan of music-never really heard her listen to it when I was a kid, but she wanted to hear a few more of his songs so I played her a few more that I thought she would like and the next thing you know we were watching the Bee Gees documentary on HBO together. I think this really shows how Robin’s beautiful voice, and the music of the Bee Gees, still resonates with people of all ages.

Japanese fans always seem ahead of the curve. Groups like Queen were huge there way before they were in many other places. Japan loved the Bee Gees. They have great taste. The crowds are always very polite, stay seated and clap at the end of a song. They wondered if they were flopping until tons of flowers began being tossed at them. Loved to see Robin sexy, smiling and happy. His smile could start forest fires. Miss him every day.

Just found you, Suzie Q, and you know what I'm going to say. In total agreement, as usual. Go figure. I really appreciate your comments about sweet Robin's smile because it's THAT beautiful smile of his that's gotten me through some really tough times in the last 16 years, along with all their amazing music of course. Watching this video makes ME smile and forget all my troubles, if just for a little while.

Robin looked so happy! Boy, Barry must truly love that blue guitar because I think he still plays it today. It’s been around a long time. I think my favorites from them are the ballads probably because of the harmonies, but this type of song is a tight second.

I love this song. There's another video of this that shows the whole city of Tokyo which is awesome. Robin's voice was the Bee Gees in my opinion. He said he sang from his and from this song his heart must have been very happy. Not many of his solos get this side of him. When he smiles he can light up a room and he always smiled with his eyes first. All I can say is Robin Robin Robin.

The group had a HUGE presence in Japan! Typically, record collectors don't feel they have a complete collection if it doesn't include the Asian/Japanese edition of the record.

Yes, Tokyo Nights was part of the One For All Tour set list in 1989. Japan was on the last leg of that tour. (I have a Japanese pressing of "The Ultimate." ) No others though.

@@DianaJG8 I didn't really get it as a collector's piece. I just wanted to play it. The liner notes are a little like a book, since they are in Japanese and English. LOL. There are some videos of the 70's concerts in Japan out there on KZbin. The sound's not very good, but fun to see - especially Mo's antics.

This is a fun one. I love seeing Robin so happy and smiling. The cry in his voice at "And the Rhythm Was New To Me" and "And The Vision Was True to Me" is unmistakably Robin. But he quickly changes it up into this great upbeat tune, as he conveys sadness at being apart, and the happiness of being reunited. Harmonies are great, and the percussion gives the impression of movement to me. The use of the sound of tympani feels like being on the ocean to me. Can't even tell you why. Who would have thought of the sound of castanets in the chorus? These guys!! Something like that really does it for me. Yeah - fun song.Thanks Chad.

Chad, what a visual you created for us with your wonderful description of your trip to Tokyo. I found my bags all packed by the front door and ready to go! You had me on that plane right beside you with your great reaction to this fantastic song. What an absolutely amazing performance from the guys. Robin's face says it all. This performance was actually in Japan on a morning show to promote the album and concerts that they would perform later that week. This was the last leg of their 1989 "One For All" tour.

They were actually in Japan when they "performed" this song during an interview for their 1989 world tour. This looks like a TV studio where they are obviously lip-synching the studio version of the song. I believe they also did 'One' that day as well. More awkward Robin moves while singing...lol.... Fun fact: The Bee Gees were the first non-Japanese artist to hit number one on the Japanese singles chart with the song "Massachusetts" in 1968.

Like your good analysis. The album "ONE" is one of my fav by the trio. I love this track, it's one I listened to the much, love the melody, the Japanese atmosphere and naturally Rob's ton of voice. From this album, my favorite songs are 1. "Wing and a prayer", 2. the crazy (for me) and odd "Flesh and blood" with Robin's particularly terrific lead vocals, 3. "Ordinary lives", 4."Tokyo nights", 5."Tears", 6."One", "Wish you were here", is ranked the last. But it doesn't mean, I do not love the song , quite the contrary .... :-)

I guess technically I have been in Japan. I lived for 6 years in South Korea and several times I changed planes at the Narita airport which is considered Tokyo. However, I never left the airport so I am not sure it counts. I do like this song. I will put buying the album on my list when payday comes.

I have always loved the Bee Gees. My favorite group ever. But when I first heard this song, long ago, it was the only one that made me go, hmm, ok, not going to replay it over and over, don't dislike it, but don't love it. And it is rare for me to have a flat response to one of the Brothers songs. But that was just my own feel for it. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a Bee Gees super fan to the extent that I can afford, lol. It's getting harder to find music all the time, and more expensive too.
