I consider George as much of a loss as Freddie is. He voice was so adaptable and powerful, he was one of those people who could sing virtually anything. He was such a vocally talented man and it's such a sad shame that he's no longer with us.

Brian May on George Michael's death: "I don’t have the words. This year has cruelly taken so many fine people way too young. And George? That gentle boy? All that beautiful talent? Can't begin to compute this. RIP George. Sing with Freddie. And the Angels."

He was the most amazing talent. This blew me away when I heard him sing it at the concert. The ONLY singer that night who could really do this song justice and who could fill Freddie's shoes. Never had the opportunity to see Freddie on stage, but I've had the chance to attend a live George Michael concert some years ago and to this day, I've never heard a better vocal performance. He just blew me away, I couldn't and still can't believe it. And you can tell that he was the only one who could match Freddie vocal's performance if not even top it for this particular song. I can't forgive Sony Music for ruining his career outside of Europe. I mean he could be more famous than he was. When he died I had the feeling that people in the US already forgot about him because hed didn't get any airplay after the 90's there. In my opinion he could be at the same level as Freddie Mercury, David Bowie or even Elton John when it comes to populartity or legend level.

Meh. Record companies aren't about "ruining" careers. They're about making MONEY. They whore their own mothers out if they could make .20 on her. So whatever happened with George's career was more about George, his agents, his PR people, his attorneys, managers, etc, etc. And, of course, his own personality, foibles, issues, mental health problems, drug use / abuse problems, etc. We certainly don't know the full story. And it's not like the guy died broke and forgotten. ANY time he wanted to make $1,000,000 all he had to do was book a couple concert dates and he was flush with cash again. So... don't cry for him, Argentina.

Yes, I agree, however, he still didn't try to make It his song with respect to Freddie. As for George singing this song For me, I think he did this song better in the sense that he sang It smoother, with notes with perfect pitch. as they glided from one to another! ( no disrespect to Freddie ) George was & still is very constant in sing songs. He doesn't change them up every time. No grandstanding, no real ego. George did everything with a pure heart. When singing other artists' songs he never sang above them (grandstanding) he sang with them. I believe he felt honored, not better than anyone else! THAT'S VERY VERY RARE, in my opinion! I'll end with this, George gave us his heart, wanting nothing in return, That's real love! 🕯😇🎶🎶🎶💖 TILL THE END OF TIME! LOL, Thank You, BK

You have excellent taste!!!! I find that a lot of people in the states don’t take the time to really listen to George. His vocals are out of this world. The way he delivered a song with that passion, transparency, and commitment was spectacular. I saw him live a few times, and his live voice gave you the chills. He was able to keep the entire arena in the palm of his hands when he delivered a song. It seems like very few can sing live today or even in a studio without assistance. I love that George left such a beautiful catalog of music for his fans, but a huge part of me, misses what he still had to give.

Loved Freddie (Queen) , George and David Bowie, too. Only had the pleasure to see George live back in the late 80’s. Sad that they are all gone, far too soon. Truly tremendous talents and a huge part of the soundtrack to my youth. They are legends and the music today can hardly hold a candle to them.

My, my...what a grand performance that was. George M is the full package, isn't he? He works so well with Queen as their front man. So sad that he lost his confidence in later years. I think Queen were the brightest kids on the block when it came to planning and rehearsing their live stage sound. Insightful analysis. Enjoyed it. Thanks Fil.

I recently watched an interview with Freddie Mercury, and he said he considers “Somebody to Love” a better song than “Bohemian Rhapsody” and I feel the same way - I love everything about this song! I also feel that Freddie would appreciate George Michael’s heartfelt tribute performance. George honors Freddie and the spirit of the song while adding some of his own style to it. Thank you, Fil, for your insightful analysis of this wonderful rehearsal! 💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜

I have never seen this. Thanks for putting it up. There aren't any videos (as far as I know) on how George developed his voice from a teenager to this point. In terms of coaching etc. I know he did a lot of work on his singing for tours / performances over the years, from interviews at various ages. One of the best voices in the last 100 years.
