Barry and Robin wrote this one together. There is a demo of them singing this together, but I'm glad they decided to let Robin go for it on his own.

Fantastic reaction!!! I feel exactly as you do. Robin's vocal range and abilities are AMAZING and beautiful. I love it when he hits those deep low notes. We don't usually get to hear his lower range.🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️

In some of their music they were very big on orchestration. Bill Shepherd was their musical arranger. For "I've decided to join the air force" they were backed by a 67 piece symphony orchestra, a choir and the RAF (Royal Air Force) marching band at the Royal Albert Hall (often used for operatic and orchestral performances). Stigwood wanted to make a big splash! Maurice's piano on both this LP and on Odessa was absolutely brilliant and all self taught. Robin had a five octave natural range plus falsetto (FALSEtto not being a part of a singer's "natural" range) although he didn't use falsetto much. His vocal gymnastics could be pretty amazing. Thanks for the weekend and have a great week.

Hi Chad, thanks so much for your reaction. It must have been close to two years since my request for this one, but being patient definitely pays off. 😀 I have always really enjoyed this song, musically and of course vocally. Indeed not to many songs come to mind where Robin plays around with his voice just like this. Maybe the song "Dairy" has some of it, but not to this extent.

I've been listening to Trafalgar just lately and love most of the tracks. Robin's vocals on this are so unexpected initially and I found myself impatiently waiting for the next lot of note changes. He had such an amazing range. Love, love it. Thanks Chad. Great marathon. Have a good week.

It wouldn't let the like light up when I hit it Chad, don't know what is going on, but know I liked it.😊 I remember once hearing an interview where they were asked what they considered themselves and they said musicians and writers of music, and that when they started there were no real music genres so they didn't really like to put themselves in a category.

I wondered if he was representing all the varied voices of the men on board ship at Trafalgar. You did do 'Somewhere' where he played a lot with his lower range but certainly showed off his upper range too.

Thanks a million dear Chad ! What a delight ! When I bought the LP in 1971, I was so bewitched by this track that I could'n't help listening to it several times in a row. Robin's ton of voice from low to high range is a treat. The Bill Shepherd's orchestration is outstanding. Love when Robin sings in a low ton of voice such as in "Terrible way to treat my baby" when his rendition is inspired by Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers.

Obrigada Chad!

Somehow, watching you react to, yet, another Bee Gees song I’ve never been into before, has made me, once again, realize just how amazing it, actually, is! I completely agree with you. Robin does indeed have a ridiculous range and it's absolutely amazing! I've heard Robin go into a low range while singing a few times before, but only early/kind of early on in their career. It's shocking every time I hear it, even though I know he did it sometimes, because of how rare it was. I wish he'd sung that low more than he did, not that I don't enjoy his regular and high ranges, at least, as much, possibly more than it; I just love it enough to want to hear it more than we got to. But, yeah. I don't recall him going this back and forth between ranges in any other song. It's crazy and shows off his amazing talent. I don't care which Gibb bro's/bros' singing you react to, even if Mo is my favorite. I love them all enough to be perfectly happy no matter who's singing. In fact, I love that you try to highlight each bro as much as you can! Thanks for, yet, another amazing marathon! I look forward to the next one!

There was such a lot of Robins range and talent that seemed to be written off by the record producers as redundant. Perhaps the decision to give up the instruments in favour of voice was his but why give up so much of his range too! Mo was rightly praised for his musicianship and versatility; Barry for his tremendous range again, rightly so, but you often heard Robin laughed at as the brother in the middle who couldn't play, couldn't dance and sang the chorus. And that was back in the day.
