1. Multiplayer and base building at launch + more 2. 10+ years of procedural generation expertise 3. A bigger, more competent team 4. Confidence in developing for multiple platforms 5. Confidence in cross play functionality I don't think LNF will follow the release structure of NMS. They are almost a decade apart in terms of scope/experience in development and scaling

They are extremely terrified it will go the same way. Truth the people making it not your own fanboy feelings. They are worried for good reasons. They are terrible at launching games. This one will be extremely disappointing at launch. Trust the devs opinion

I think they are trying to be more mindful of not sharing too much. How many times did CDPR hear "it didn't have such and such you promised before launch." This could come out in a month or a year and if they waited to reveal platforms until a week prior. Nobody could say it didn't deliver what they have said it will have based on what we know now. They don't want to deal with that and I don't blame them. Hence that meme Sean shared about him saying "Fantasy RPG Elements! chonky dragons!" and his team members being like "chill Sean!!"

I expect big updates for NMS in 2024 to keep us busy and an early 2025 LNF release. This announcement trailer will provide them with a lot of feedback/expectation from the community. HelloGames can use these to improve or rework LNF in 2024 and do the same with feature specific trailers during next year. In regards of development time a comparison to NMS should not be taken so directly as they have more experience and based on the trailer they are using some already available NMS code. 🐰

I'm thinking in the new year, we will get an announcement of a late 2024 release. My lunch money (beer) is on early 2025. With recent data showing a resurgence in pcs for gaming, I can't imagine that HG would take this opportunity to go console only. I also suspect there are advantages from a developer's perspective (not just sales) to release on more than one platform.
@richard127gm11 ай бұрын
For me, the biggest clue is the amount they are currently spending on advertising. It would be very unusual to spend so much money on a game a year or two away.
@Cholin394711 ай бұрын
Another thing to consider is they have a lot more staff. They started out with four now they have 40+ employees. They cold have twenty people working on this right now. I'm still thinking Christmas 2024. This gives them a year to build up the hype train. They could drop additional teaser trailers once every few months and maybe an interview or two. Then a few weeks before launch a lengthy promo and game play sample video similar to the "This is Starfield" video.

I was not around for the NMS launch but after seeing a recent video from Captain Steve where he discussed the scripted cinematics in the initial trailer for NMS I hope they did not repeat that. While it looks great it also does not have a release date. If that was "Game play" and it made to look like it was practically done I have my reservations. I hope it is great at launch but I am not going to hold my breath waiting.

One thing that concerns me re: expectations is that a lot of people are talking about RPG elements like quests and dungeons... and I don't think it's going to be a quest-and-progression type of game. Those elements are likely to be present, but not the focus. The lore will probably be mostly environmental storytelling. And I doubt there will be dungeons. I suspect it will be more sandbox adventure than RPG, close to NMS in gameplay style. I love that idea, but I hope they're very clear about what the game is and is not.

I'm not sure Hello Games learned absolutely no lessons from the release of NMS. Given how their public relations changed completely after the controversy such that they essentially release no information until a week before an update. I agree this isn't likely to be coming out 1st quarter 2024, but how they release information in the last several years and the level of polish shown in the (in-game) trailer lead me to think we also won't need to wait years like we did with NMS. I do think it's weird we're getting commercials so early if the game isn't close to release, but that could just be them deciding to capitalize on how many views the trailer got in such a short time. I'm also thinking it's odd we aren't getting any details on platforms, but this might not mean it's far from release, just that the answer to that question might turn away attention from the game. If this is a PC-only title, they wouldn't want to sour people away from generating hype for them. I'll say this though: it's objectively confusing. I've never had a less clear idea of when an announced game will drop.

I think that the reason why No Platform is mentioned is because they are still in the process of deciding if they want to support Previous Gen. We know that PC is 100% guaranteed and given that NMS is on other platforms including VR. I think with Time all of them will be available for LNF, too. Except of switch. I don't think they will support switch , max they may support upcoming Switch. To this day, It is mindboggling for me how they can support NMS on Switch even with limitation.
@D0NU7511 ай бұрын
I don't blame them, every time Sean said something about the game, people held it to gospel sometimes at the expense of reason. Any intelligent person would see that if they aren't saying something then there is no reason to asume anything and to treat everything just as speculation. I'm fine with them not releasing information, they can take their time and i'll buy it.

Depending on how NMS is coded, then it might be used as an engine as Unreal. Giving a much shorter development time, by focus on graphics and logic (and story).
@D0NU7511 ай бұрын
oh pretty sure both games share DNA, you can tell from the walking animation, the flying mounts that are basically starships (see the take off animation) and some of the flora. It's not bad imo, a good example that comes to mind is how Rockstar took their engine from GTA3/VC and boosted it for SA

An imminent release wouldn't surprise me, given the choice of expedition replays this month, but I'm hopeful for late 2024/early 2025. I can also se that the next NMS update will be prefaced by or connected by expeditions involving a search for new, previously unknown/undetectable systems ... will the new ships be deep[er] space scout ships with new sensors and longer range drives but limited cargo? Maybe an expedition will introduce an emergency cryo/stasis capsule on board? I don't seen any type of end to NMS in the near future, rather an option to instead of staying in the loop or current galaxy, an additional choice to choose to stay on a new planet that will test multiplayer numbers on a single planet? There would be multiple instanced planets where you can join a players game?

Doesn’t matter no man’s sky and light no fire are lovely games but light no fire won’t be the same as it is in the trailer
@operationmisanthropia583111 ай бұрын
Light No Fire looks like as if Hello Games took almost all assets of No Mans Sky and turned it fantasy. It was kinda disappointing to see the trailer, even when it looks great. I could see it being part of the NMS-Universe, just being one of the endless other "universes" that the AI calculated differently. Coming with all the consequcnes of it. Why I think this is: Many animations in the trailer, the way the game looks like, and the building system shortly gazed upon look like ripped out of NMS. That animation where the character hops on their mount, and especially the camera movement is straight out of NMS. It looks too much like No Mans Sky and from the trailer feels too much like NMS. And to be honest: Grabbing all the basic assets from NMS and pushing it into a new game with similar atmosphere and gameplay wouldnt be this hard to make. Mostly it would be replacing visuals (Spaceships become giant birds/dragons you can ride), changing world generation to make it more diverse (while keeping it one planet) and adjusting things that dont work well in NMS next to cutting other stuff entirely like generation of star systems etc.
