I noticed while watching the trailer for the first time that, in the underwater bit, the swimming animations were different between the races. Makes me wonder if the different races are going to have certain strengths and weaknesses. Such as aquatic creatures like otters being able to swim faster. Or maybe the wolf race can last longer in cold climates. Bear characters are stronger and can carry more. Things like that would be really cool.

I hope assets and tech are shared between Light No Fire and No Man's Sky. It would mean whenever they create something new for one game, they can share it with the other, and vice-versa. Both games improve because of the other over time.

The small skellies have horns, too! Also, @17:30, the statue lights up as the camera pivots around the scene. It looks straight at the torch! The ending scene has 2 characters. The 2nd is walking at the very bottom of the frame, right to left.

There's always the questions of how players and their data be dealt with server wise and how the proc gen will mesh with rpg elements. Other than that, I'm stoked to play it as I was with NMS at launch. I know I'll have fun in this "new world". Even if it were to launch with problems. They have so much opportunity to tie together the NMS lore with this. Could be different levels of reality. Awesome stuff!

2:20 SM said the little skellies are evil. 11:00 I'm thinking the green particle glow next to the "Home" sign is a portal to return to your base. 12:06 Notice the different roofs of the two dwellings. The closer one is much more crude, so either materials or skill (or both) may be gated behind experience/tools/etc. I really like the diversity in player characters and outfits! I too am really curious about the "Light No Fire" name. I've spent some time pondering it. The obvious explanation would be that nighttime is when the real danger is present. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how big this map will be according to SM's comment of every player in one world (server) and the world bigger than Earth.

No Man's Fire XD . Since some games can handle many large planets, then instead handle one very large should go for much the same (storing and handling needed amount of information). I can se ways NMS "engine" can be turned into a kind of RPG. Bullets and lasers can work very similar to "magic" weapons based on mana/energy, with a similar module upgrade system.

I believe that the lyrics of "The Hunger of Pine" (song used in the reveal trailer) has some clues as to what kind of game we are going to deal with.

I've been looking at theories about the name and one I though was interesting is that the "Fire" means civilization, and large hubs attract enemies, so you don't want to light the fire of civilization if you don't want to deal with enemies.

I can imagine this being a good survival game. I can imagine this being a good building game. I can imagine this being a good exploration game. I can imagine doing all those things with a small group of friends. I can even imagine a larger multiplayer world, perhaps implemented similarly to NMS. But what I can't imagine is this being a great role playing game. With a world this size, how can there be NPC characters that fit into pre-plotted stories, which are necessary for impactful stories? In NMS the RPG aspects of the game has characters that are: 1. Either ghosts or projections (Artemis, Null, etc...). So they can be accessed from anywhere. 2. Omnipresent, god-type entities (The Atlas, The Void Mother, etc...). 3. Generic NPCs that at best gave generic boring tasks without much repeatability; these are a full-on fail at being compelling. At best they are time sinks for getting some type of in-game currency or status. Pretty blah, unless the tasks you have to do are really fun and highly repeatable. How can the RPG aspects of Light No Fire be top tier when the world is populated with endless copies of the same NPCs, making them all feel "samey". Part of what makes the real world compelling is the diversity of people we meet all over the earth. And also the depth of animal behavior, both of which will be lacking in this game, compared to the real world. [Side note: I used to wish I could follow animals to their beds at night in NMS. Obviously HG didn't consider that worth programming; at least they sometimes fight and poop. But, god, being able to watch animal's day and night cycle behavior on an individual basis would have made the planetary fauna so much more compelling, give one a reason to stick around, and make the planets feel more alive. I realize that would be asking for a lot. For some creatures, the program would have to spawn in "nests" along with the animals, and this would be a major programming task, which likely be missed by a lot of players. But it's little details like this that turn great games like NMS into timeless legends.] One can imagine diversity to the biomes around the planet, but can you imagine HG being able to code for anything like the cultural diversity of the real earth? Of course not! Might as well face it now: the characters will of necessity be shallow, with the exceptions of some in-world gods that have the potential of being more-or-less ever present. In NMS, every Korvax is the same Korvax; every Vykeen is the same Vykeen; every Gek is the same Gek; every anomaly is the same anomaly. The characters are all proc-gen reskins. Compare that with a strong RPG, say Witcher III. A game like that has dozens of detailed, thought-out characters with compelling stories. I can't imagine that type of RPG content in a game world the size of Light No Fire from a developer the size of HG. I expect reskins of a number of types of characters and generic quests, with the exception of a few main quest lines that involve omnipresent deities, or the like. The later could be well-written (as they are in NMS), but all the "re-skin" characters water down the effect of the few well-developed characters and the end result won't be a very strong RPG. If I was to criticize the trailer it is this: it builds expectations for the RPG aspects to be at a quality level commensurate to the other aspects of the game. How can the RPG aspects measure up to the other kinds of gameplay. The other aspects: survival, exploration, building, etc. look excellent and we know HG can pull those off. When the game drops, disappointment will arise from the weakness of the game as an RPG, which it is advertised as. I think HG should try to temper expectations of the game as an RPG, or else people are going to project a lot of depth that simply can't be there with a game world the size that it is with proc-gen NPCs.
@jayjayhooksch111 ай бұрын
"depth that simply can't be there...with proc gen NPCs". They've been working on the game for 5 years in an already established engine that has already ironed out the other things that you said you can see them doing well. Let's give them some benefit of the doubt that they used some of that time to address the rpg elements of the game.

Not dropping very much information is absolutely Hello Game's style, after the hype train crashed and burned with No Man's Sky they quit publicizing anything to do with their ongoing work. The fact that they kept this very much under wraps until the five year mark just reinforces that, most game studios would of been going on about a new project like Light No Fire before they'd they even started production. I'm àgoing to enioy the ramp up to launch, both for the game and to see the absolutely masterful management of the game in the public sphere. Sean learned his lesson and now he entertains himself with driving the player base insane on emoji at a time. 😄

I think the flame tower on the mountain is player built. I think it is a landmark for the floating building.
