Thanks! Such a nice wood to play with, especially since several of the other recent woods proved difficult.

Agreed, beech is a great workhorse wood. I've found a couple of things to consider when using beech though: 1) The surface does not take dyes and some stains (although pigment pens and paint pens work well) 2) It is very hard (tough) when turning into the end grain and blunts tools fairly quickly. Nice wand.

Right!?! Just seemed to be a great foundation for all kinds of projects, not super exciting but decent at several things. Since I don't really use wood stains, I can't speak to how well it works with them so it's good to know. It seemed to have no problem absorbing the ebonizer (even though the reaction was average), so I bet water and alcohol based fluids would work well in general. And while the grain and color were fairly simple, it was a bit more exciting than alder IMO. But since making wands rarely required turning across the grain, I had no idea it was challenging. Another good thing to know. But I can think of a lot of other woods I'd not want to turn into the grain...Katalox, Bloodwood, Tigerwood...so dense. But yeah, Beech is a fun wood. Look forward to playing with it more. Thanks for watching and for the input on the wood!
