My 1947 V-Tail Beechcraft Bonanza, Model 35 E-Series (E-185-11), Continental 0-470, Serial # D798, Canadian Registration C-GNIN
This is a short video, with assorted clips filmed on different days, during various flights.
Walk-around and run-up NOT included.
A few still photos of the aircraft are included at the end of the video.
My thanks to Richard Carnahan, Bob Orrett and Tom McMeekin for providing a few of the exterior/in-flight clips... very much appreciated!

Love the completely unpainted airframe other than ruddervators! If you really wanted it to look even more amazing you could strip ruddervators and polish them and then coat them with Boeshield T9. It would leave a slight white film as it got sun exposed but it would still look beautiful and wouldn’t corrode.

Having personally polished planes before, it looks great, but the upkeep is incredible! I like less weight for performance, but a paint job goes a long way in protecting the airframe from corrosion. 20 lbs extra weight or polish every six months, your choice.

Sharp looking Bonanza. Looks like it has Cleveland wheels and brakes. Is that a Hartzell prop? Since it is the original 35, someone has taken very good care of it. I had a G model and put a lot of hours on it. Many times wish I had kept it. I like your comment on experience and instruction. Very sound and safe airplane in the hands of a competent pilot.

Hello Sam, and thank you for the kind words. Yes, it is a Hartzell prop... good eye. It's great that you had a G model Bonanza and no doubt, you must miss it at times. Thanks again and best regards.

Built a couple of hundred airframes or so prior to the one Buddy Holly was lost in.

Yes, it's very interesting. The Buddy Holly Bonanza was the same year (1947), serial number D-1019, and mine is serial number D-798.

Only problem is tail cone has to be painted. It would be cool if someone made an aluminum tail cone out of very thin aluminum skin. It’s not structural so it would t have to be very thick.

These v-tail bonanzas are such cool planes. would it make a good first plane? are they pretty forgiving?

That is an interesting question, Max... I think it depends on a few things such as how many hours the owner has, his/her previous experience, access to a instructor with experience and knowledge on this type of aircraft to help with the check-out, access to a qualified AME with experience on this type of aircraft, sound research on this type of aircraft prior, and perhaps joining organizations such as the American Bonanza Society (ABS). I'm probably not the best suited person to answer your question but these are just some of my thoughts. Personally, I find the Bonanza to be an easy aircraft to fly but that comes with many years of experience, prior research, talking with lots of people and reading as much information as I could lay my hands on. I did not find the retractable gear or hydraulic assisted prop (some have an electric prop) to be an issue. The ABS has a great forum which covers and answers so many questions. Lew Gage of the ABS has written a fantastic book called "E-Series Bonanzas: Flying, Owning and Maintaining a Classic... awesome book... a must have for the older E-series Bonanzas such as mine. There is a fellow on KZbin (Ben Weeks), and I believe he learned to fly on his father's Bonanza. He would be an excellent person to reach out to, and to also watch a few of his earlier KZbin videos. Without doing your homework though, I can see getting into unforeseen financial or worse yet, safety issues with the Bonanza as a first aircraft. Regarding your question, "Are they pretty forgiving?", it is a "slippery" aircraft that can get away on you if you lose your focus or are inattentive, especially in night or IFR type conditions. There are so many positive reasons to love the Bonanza, but again, I hope that you continue to ask this great question to many others who are more qualified than myself. I hope this helps!
