Very cool, Sam!! Odessey and Oracle is an amazing record that was essentially overlooked aside from the single “Time Of The Season”. Fortunately, it eventually was “discovered”. A number of recent TV shows have used “Care of Cell” and “This Will Be our Year” and brought this classic to the ears of a new generation.

I read that this was the first session by a non EMI act to record at Abbey Road. I believe this was recorded in mid 67. The Zombies were signed to CBS in the UK. Apple acts like badfinger and Mary Hopkin followed suit and recorded there in 69.

It’s always great to see the non-Beatles stuff sprinkled into your uploads. I’ve noticed in the last few videos that it looks like there’s some dark colored Gibson semi-hollow over your right shoulder, am I missing something or is that a guitar we haven’t been introduced to yet?

Do you have any kind of artificial muting going on under the bridge cover? I replicate Beach Boys tracks (see my channel if you like) and I'm pretty obsessed with the technical details of bass muting and this sounds really close to some stuff I'm trying to dial in.

I’m using my original 70’s bridge cover that came with this 78 bass. It has little foam mute strips under it

Hey Sam, have you ever listened to Todd Rundgren or his group Utopia? Great guitarist and producer that is rather underrated but there is a Utopia album called Deface The Music that is a homage to The Beatles. Every song sounds just like a Beatles song.

imo a major difference between the average 60's band and the beatles is that the beatles would've taken a song like this and added an extra layer to it whether it was a key change or solo. I love this album and this song but it isnt as interesting as a beatles tune.
@sampopkin2 ай бұрын
I’d have to disagree, I don’t think the zombies are an ordinary 60’s band. At least not odessey and oracle. That album, pepper and piper at the gates of dawn were all made at EMI in ‘67 and use some revolutionary sounds and techniques
