Kent, I tried this recipe, and my husband and I love it! In Sept 2022, my 37 year old son-in-law received news that his 2nd battle with cancer was about to begin. After he began cancer treatment, I made a batch of this goulash and took it to him and my daughter. This is about the only food he can eat due to nausea. So this lasts about 3 days. I am so thankful I found your delicious recipe. I never would have thought of what a blessed meal this would become... Thank you! *I wanted to add that this has become the dish I have ready for him each time after he has his chemo. I made a batch today, first meal he's been able to keep down. I will continue to make "Kent's Goulash" after each treatment. *September 15, 2023 I am saddened to share my precious son in law passed away. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 25, 2023. He fought long and hard. What an amazing young man. He leaves behind his wife and 2 and a half year old son.

Fun fact: Goulash (originally: Gulyás) means Cowboy in hungarian. The name of the original dish (that's a thick soup made on open fire) is "Gulyás leves" that means Cowboy soup. That was shortened to goulash in foreign languages.

i really enjoy your dishes. they take me back to my roots. I am from South Arkansas. i can remember watchin my Grandpa and Grandma cook all theses same dishes. its like a strole down memory lane. my Grandpa wore an cowboy hat and we listen to Hank Sr. while waiting for him to cook this dish on on the weekends after the shop closed. we even had an garden in the back yard we would have to maintain .i am Veteran and i have been stuck in the Hospital for the last 2 months. i have been studying your videos so when i get out i can make some of these dishes for my family but mainly my two teenage boys who need to know our roots and how we grew up. cant wait to throw my boots and jeans back on once i get out. i am big airat fan my self. i play the 6 string and write country music on the side. so these videos are right down my lane. but i have stuck in the hospital waiting on this recovery and surgery to pass. it helps since i cant get out of bed much. i am dealing wit pancreas and kidney issues at the moment. i am a really big fan of yours and really enjoy these videos. if i had a chance i would love to do some of these dishes myself once i get out. im just an old country boy waiting to get out of the Hospital from some of my Injuries from the Army that i serve wit my western gear on just like you.i was wounded over seas and have had multiple surgeries since i have bee out around 6 or more of them. 4 being on my stomach alone. so your videos educate me and are entertainment at the same time. its like a piece of my roots here in front of me. thankyou for your hard work and i plan on incorprarating some of these dishes my self once im out and get my channel going. i do outdoor trips to help wit my injuries from the Army and wanted to have cooking like this in wit my program ideas. i know this is long but once again thankyou and be blessed.

When I was growing up we had goulash a lot. It was always a little bit different. We were pretty poor and lived off of stuff like rice, beans, and goulash. I haaated goulash as a kid. But as I got older, and my mother got older - the recipes changed, for the better too. And I learned to love it. Love watching your content, man. You seem like one heck of a guy. Thank you for making this content for us.

I have an aunt who went on her local PBS station during a fundraiser to promote a book of her hot dish recipes. One of her granddaughters had a husband that worked there and he asked her to put it together. We were kind of laughing about it because we knew how poor the family had been and that this had been a necessity for them. You put together whatever you had and hoped for the best. If it turned out good, you wrote it down for future reference. When she went on that show she had a whole 3 ring binder full of hot dish recipes. People were buying the books like crazy. If they only knew how they had really come about.

My wife was reminiscing about the goulash her mother used to make when she was a kid. Her mother passed away a few years ago so we can't ask her recipe. I told her it was something I could fix for dinner if she could give me an idea which of the many recipes online was close to what she remembered. While searching she found your video and said it was the closest, except for the hot peppers, but she loved that addition. She said her family had a tradition that whoever got a bay leaf in their bowl had to do the dishes. Her mom always put two bay leaves in and they always ended up in my wife's and her brother's bowls. I've got a big pot simmering right now waiting for the noodles to be added and our house smells wonderful. I've got two bay leaves in and our two sons will be joining us for dinner. Thank you for helping keep one of Ruth's traditions alive for my wife and our family.

That looks really good Kent. I’ve got one that a gulps for kids and it too darn simple and kids love it! 2 LBS ground beef, 80/20 Two 8 ounce cans whole tomatoes Two small blocks extra sharp chatter cheese, cubed. 1 box macaroni noodles, large or small. 1/3 cup sugar. Salt and pepper to taiste. After browning off the ground beef, season with S&P. Add your tomato’s. In the mean time, cube your cheese and cook and drain your noodles. Don’t rinse them. Once you meat and tomatoes have come to a simmer , turn them off and add the cubes cheese and noodles and the sugar, stir well. Once it is all mixed put it into aluminum baking pans. Choose your own size. Bake in a 350 degree oven until the cheese has melted and the noodles brown a bit. Kids love this!!! If you make three pans you can freeze them before Baling and have them ready for a quick dinner on a day when it’s cold and you don’t want to cook a lot. Cheers!! Jim

Gulyás, which is Gulyás in Hungarian, basically means Cowboy :D, because traditionally it was made by the person who guarded the cattle (the Gulyás). The traditional way is to cook it in a big special pot called bogrács on an open fire. I'm pretty sure the American cowboys would love the real traditional Hungarian version as well, even though the Hungarian colleges used to eat it :D. I would try this version as well.

I lived in Germany until I was 12 and my Oma would make goulash all the time, the Hungarian version of course. We then moved to California and I would still make the goulash I grew up with. In 2001, I moved to Dallas-Fort Worth and my friends mother said she was making goulash for dinner and I said “oh wow”, they know goulash way down here? When dinner was served, I was like UHHHHH, what’s this? It’s not goulash 🤣 I had never heard of Cowboy goulash until that very moment and it was love at first taste.
