In Australia the majority of all our beefers are paddock raised, we dont need feed lots the east coast of australia is the perfect place for dairy OR beef and where I live have some really good mix and it is amazing how well looked after the cattle are nothing but the best for them. The farmers KNOW that without the cows then they wouldn't have $ coming in, simple.

@@krystalwilliams3238 that's the same with all of us that raise cattle my cows don't live in paddocks on concrete in confinement they are raised in big meadows of grass that are fertilized sprayed for weeds and rotationally grazed on different fields throughout the year then eat hay and some grains throughout the winter they have places to beat the cold and can go and come as they want all of us that produce beef care and take care of our animals first we go out in the cold snow and ice rain lightning or wind animals come first

@Hiten Malhotra yes we don't need to slaughter these animals. We all know beef comes from the supermarket, same as milk. It all just shows up.

When I worked on a farm , we always left out our young stock until around Xmas/New Year. One day the farm manager and my self were walking through the wood with two bags of cake, calling for the animals. Sure enough they came charging through the trees all trying to get to the troughs first. When they caught up with us they went round us, except the bull, he went through us, not even bothering to slow down. Something I remember to this day. 50yrs on.

I couldn’t be a beef farmer because I’d get way too attached to every cow and come slaughter time I wouldn’t be able to go through with it blowing my profits completely but in saying that I’m glad your cows have a good life. Unfortunately there are so many farms that don’t treat their animals with kindness and that’s why I like you and your farm, The Pemberton name stands as a pillar and a role model! Great philosophy of farming. I buy my beef from a farm where the beef is born and raised. They also get small amounts of concentrates to help with growth, this yields a better beef. The beer processor for this farm is across the street so that works out well, no stressful transport. Keep up the good work.

I'm not against beef or dairy farming, heck I quite like beef burgers, but what I am against is animals being trapped in tiny pens. I'm glad you keep your cattle in open areas.

Tom on your dairy herd is there a cross that you like the most or a breed you always use like breeding the Holstein cows to brown swiss and then crossing them to Ayrshire? Beef calves look good. Where we are we don't get a lot of rain but we have good hard grass and we just shipped 4 red angus heifers that failed to breed and they where 20 months and avg. 1200lbs and that was on grass, but they had a stocking rate of 1head to 20acres.

Got a few questions for ya there Tom 1. Are ya not concerned Neptune has too much work to do that he could miss a few,especially over such a large area 2. Those beef cattle are heifers ya 3. Are the Charolais out of dairy cows, if so how did you overcome the issue with calving difficulty 4. What are they killing out at(talkin dead weight,grade and body condition score) Just lookin at things as a sucker farmer drifting between calving Charolais and limousines out of Simmental off dairy cows

The OddLad 1- I just keep feeding Neptune with 3/4 at a time. Some will be 6 months in calf in that field 2. They are out of cows 3. They calve really well we used a bull called “Booster” from cogent. Not had to many issue 4. 165-175 a side dead weight, I know we have had U2 R2 but I’m not 100% on average dead weights tbh Hope this helps 😀

Aaah true cupboard love from the beef cattle. Cattle are curious. Thought one was keen to be a vlog Star or take over filming. Either that or Tom came close to being pushed over while thesteers searched for more treats. They want to know what’s up. Young cattle are also playful and enjoy a game or two plus a run after a vehicle following the food source. just to get one up on their mates.

I am not a waguu fan. But I love the charolais. I am doing a free range program with some big ass charolais. I am feeding about 15 lbs a days barley and appropriate supplement on top of about 10 acres pre head of good hard grass. I farm near Calgary Alberta Canada. And my goal is to direct market 400 free range beef a year . My customers will be able to pre order any breed of steer they want and I will finish it with a predetermined margin.

Great video my favourite so far. A beef farmer myself and would almost always buy them type of CHX bullocks at roughly 2 years old and finish them off for slaughter. Interested in how and when u plan to sell them or will ye fatten them yourself ?

It’s such a shame more people don’t understand or don’t care where their food comes from and also want it as cheap as possible it’s because of that there are slaughter houses out there that are just in the business of putting as much through as possible, I for one am happy to pay that little bit more for quality local meat that’s been cared for and well raised you can’t beat local quality produce!

First off love your Channel! I've binge watched tons of videos. I have to be honest and I understand it's been quite a bit of time since you've filmed this but I must admit I got the notion these Cows were hungry. Now they looked pretty good but if some are about to Calve wouldn't ya want to make sure they weren't stressed by anything(Including hunger)? I suggest perhaps feeding these 75-80# of Silage a day! Thank you very much your resident know nothing Jerk! : ) Now if they start acting fat and sassy and not coming to ya then cut it back a tad.

Herefords also calve very well, are easy to work with-particularly the polls-and they look gorgeous. I love the dark coloured Herefords.
