I think it's a credit to you and the way you take care of your cows that you had a 15 year old milk cow. Sad to see them go, always. I enjoy your channel very much. You love your cows and it shows. Loved hearing about the 'end of life' for the beef and cull cows. As a confirmed carnivore, I support my local butcher who buys his stock from within a 30 mile radius of his shop. Great that you got a good price for them. Very interested in the stats, bit too much to take in during the video, perhaps a small spread sheet with the cow type / age weight / value raised vs cost etc Hope family are all getting better too..

As a new subscriber, I found this a very interesting and informative video. I used to produce store cattle to sell on to the finishing market. I've been out of farming for a few years now, but I still remember the old cheque book style passports with the pages for stickers when doing movements on farm and to tear out and send off to the BCMS when selling stock. The large new passports reminded me of the passports that were issued to older stock when they introduced cheque book style passports for newborn calves back many years ago now.

Even after editing we are getting a view of farming in near "Realtime" Warts and all , you just keep on showing us how it is because that's what we like. I'm an addict for details and numbers - and boning! So keep 'em coming. The science of modern farming and the resultant analyses fascinates me. I remember my uncle was delighted when he got 70 guineas (gross) for a culled 17 year old Shorthorn X Freisian but that was back in 1958/59. Really interesting video today, what was missing in polish was more than made up for with the reality. I hope Jo, Harvey, Luke, Andrew et al are soon better. And does it ever stop raining there?

For the farm shop, have you thought of in store pickup? This is where people order online from a website then, when the order is ready they get a text and/or email telling them so the can go to the shop and pick it up. That way there is less pressure on the staff as you set the time parameter and no shipping.

To be honest Tom I followed the video perfectly, I think it worked very well. So don't worry about it. Just a question regarding the 2 young culled cows, especially the Aberdeen Angus, would it have been any better money wise if you were to sell them to perhaps a beef farmer for breed new stock? She in particular would have been an ideal mix for breeding and rearing calves. It's just a thought, I appreciate it was easier to send them all off at once.

I just sold 8 beef heifers. They averaged 1408 lbs. each and sold for $1.94 live weight. So they grossed $2731.52 USD each. The sales fee was $17 and the beef check off was $2. So they brought $21700.16 USD. That is the highest I have ever sold beef heifers for. The issue is feeder cattle price is sky high now. I just bought some beef steers weighing 845 lbs. average, the cost was $2.55/lbs. or $2180.25 each. Sure hope the market stays up long enough to sell thee higher feeder cattle at finish.
