Cooking the recipe in the slow cooker will give you a nicely flavoured curry, BUT you won't get the oil separating from the coconut milk, which means you won't get the sauce reducing or the caramelization of the beef. If you did want to use the slow cooker and you want that dry-caramelized finish, you can make up the curry right up to the part you add the beef back in with the coconut milk. Bring to the boil, then transfer to the slow cooker. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 6-8 hours. After this time, transfer to an ovenproof casserole pan and place in the oven, uncovered at 160C/320F for 1-1 1/2 hours, until the sauce reduces, the oil separates from the coconut milk and the beef caramelizes to a dark golden brown. Stir every 30 minutes during the time cooking in the oven.

U know what's best from this recipe and -of course- the demo? U not made it less Indonesian by makin your own "authentic" ver or to make it more "understandable" for non-Indon, no. That's how it's really supposed to be (except for some slight var. out there) And honestly, as an Indonesian i am really, really thankful how u appreciate and also promotin our culture through this vid Cheers, ma'am.

Your recipe is so simple and less hassle than the stove top cooking. My chef friend in Indonesia recommended similar method. But since it took so long, I prefer to double or triple the recipe. Rendang can be stored for a long time. Thank you

Beautiful flavours and not a complicated recipe. My wife who’s not a curry lover ( spicy foods ) loved this dish. Having said that did not use the fresh chillies just a pinch of chilli powder. Thank you for demonstrating this we will be trying more of your recipes.

Hello, thank you for bringing up Indonesian cuisine. As Indonesian live in LA, I'm happy when non-Indonesian cook my country's food because it means more exploration of Indonesian culture. I feel Indonesian culture and cuisine is not known popularly comparing to the neighboring countries such as Thailand or Vietnam. Thank you again.

Explained it very well, your version looks close like the authentic dry rendang. And i love the way you say rendang :) However, have you ever tried your version without the flour? (If you want to thicken it up, you can add toasted desiccated coconut at the end) and leave the sugar out. I know all ingredients are hard to find but you did well 👍
