Spending a few last days in Miami and trying out Chef Morimoto's ramen restaurant as well as an amazing Argentinian steak house. But the best food was from a Chinese Jamaican restaurant.

Miami does not have great ramen to be honest. I live in the Miami area and tasted ramen in Cali and Texas. Although, there’s more ramen places now then 10 years ago, we still have a long way to go. I also want to note that wynwood has become so pricey and not all the places are good, glad he pointed out the yolk.

Hey, Mike, what you called vermicelli in the cơm tấm isn't actually vermicelli. It's bì and it's actually thin pieces of pork and pork skin with roasted rice powder. I know that can sound unappetizing to some people, but rice and bì or cơm bì is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. It's just a quick, simple, and cheap dish. :)

To be fair I think Mike does his best to find good food wherever he goes. So it makes sense that he doesn't often have harsh criticism if he's doing his research. Though I agree, it is refreshing to hear him criticize food sometimes. I think it proves that he's genuine about his love of food when the food really IS good.

The mosquito issue. There is only one thing that is guaranteed to keep you from being eaten by mosquitos: DEET. But DEET is problematic because it has a bad reputation -- some people have a reaction to it in its most concentrated form. This is exceptionally rare. It's basically (in Mike Chen terms) Broccoli Flavoring For Humans, interferes with the bug's ability to smell and taste the chemicals that attract them to feast on humans. You might want to get some 10-20% DEET repellent for the times you go where malaria vectors I mean mosquitos are prevalent. Also it makes you not-tasty to ticks, which carry Lyme Disease and live in New York near your house there.

One of the only things I miss about Miami is the availability of Jamaican patties and Puerto Rican food. There just aren't many options in LA. That said, I've never seen someone eat a patty with chopsticks lol!

Jamaica was a stepping point for a lot of slaves heading to North and South America. It is similar because it was peopled by similar people with similar resources.

It seems there is just no end to the variety to the food! It is an eyeopener - love the mixed culture foods the best- like the Jamaica Kitchen- that looked insanely delicious! Mikey has a true gift to deliver his passion- I've seen and learned more about food and the culture on his channels than any "celebrity" has ever provided. I love that even though Mikey is known worldwide we never get that vibe- it is really special.

In Jamaica it's Called "Rice & Peas"... ingredients: Jasmine rice, coconut milk, gold seal butter(or whatever kind you like), red Kidney beans, Thyme and Scallion(Green Onion)... Directions: Boil the Kidney beans for while (like half cook or you can used can kidney beans and skip the boiling process), put in the Rice in the water, put in butter, then put in the coconut milk, some salt ( salt same as normal rice).... mix and then put a piece of fresh Thyme and a 2 whole scallion (no cutting up except for getting rid of root part or blemish).. then cook until done.... it's very Popular, but I thought you might want to know how to make it and what's in it.

Anyone else with Azorean Portuguese heritage feel weird when people say "cho-reez-o" and then also feel unable to say anything because literally EVERYONE else says it that way and you're actually the odd one? Just me? okay.

Rice and Peas {yeah I know it's a bean but Jamaicans call it rice and peas), is made with coconut milk, scallions, allspice berries, scotch bonnet peppers, thyme and other seasonings. I'm so glad you had what looks like real Jamaican food. If you ever make it to Jamaica, you can find real Jerk Chicken and Pork that is like nothing you can get outside of Jamaica. Think slow cooked BBQ pork with jerk spices cooked over the wood from the all-spice berry tree.... Plus enough scotch bonnet peppers to blow your mind.

Jamaica Kitchen in (South) Miami is a great place to eat Jamaican Food. Ate there for over 10 years. Didn’t realize it at the time but I was spoiled by the routine and consistent excellence in all the menu items. Can’t go wrong. All very tasty but Jerk Chicken and Red Peas soup my favorite. Really miss the place. Where’s my homie Albert?

You have to request a soft boiled egg because nowadays in a lot of American Ramen places they'll serve it semi hard automatically because many people are afraid or dislike runny yolk

Mike, please do your homework. Chinese did not “move” to Jamaica in the 1800’s. That implies these immigrants chose to freely migrate to Jamaica. These people were mainly indentured servants/laborers. While some of these migrants owed debts to their debtors and had to work to repay their debts, many were also “Shanghaied” in China and basically became slave laborers. Many of them were sold off as indentured laborers in Central/South America and the Caribbean.
