The Vietnamese culture in the Houston-area in particular, is such a wonderful part of Texas history! The Vietnamese are a big part of the modern fishing industry of Texas. Mekong is a delta. Mississippi River region is a delta. I've watched and have enjoyed the incredible assortment of Vietnamese restaurants that have blossomed all over Texas since the 80's. Thank you so much, Mikey Chen, for covering some amazing restaurants in Houston. I look forward to trying each!

Well gotta say, I stand with Mike on the need to prove to aunties that we can eat what we order. This one time my sister and I went to a restaurant and ordered our favorite dishes, separately, and this aunty came to talk to us and told us the portion was too much for just two of us and it would be a waste. She recommended cancelling half our order. My sister and I just looked at each other, smiled, thanked her and asked to bring the food. Well we not only finished every last bit, but found ourselves wanting more.. Good times..😁

We always thought about how to call those summer rolls and a few years ago (somewhere between 6-8 years I guess) I started calling these bbq-meat summer rolls 'autumn rolls' and my mom went with it. Seems like I had the right instinct for naming it :) because honestly I didn't see them around anywhere except homemade by us (living in Germany and around my area - Frankfurt - only the last couple of years viet food started to appear)
