Great video! Have been sidetracked for a while. Nice to be back. 19:53 yay! A couple years ago I watched one of your videos where you talked about how you paid off like $30,000 in bills in one summer doing queen rearing. Ever since then, Queen rearing has been a goal of mine, but each year I realize there are other things that I needed to learn first. This summer is my summer for queen rearing and I am very much looking forward to your new videos about queen rearing.

Great Video, round two winter weather, low 20's, NW winds, 4+ inches of snow and expecting no relief throughout January into February. WBK boards are on each hive and extra WBK boards are ready. Stay strong, safe, and healthy.

I never keep a swarm unless it's from my own apiary. I learned this the hard way.

I was wanting to get into beekeeping but I’m not sure what kind of beehive to get I live in Southwest Mississippi and I was thinking about getting the MayBee 10-Frame but I wanted to see what you thought first also, what bees would you recommend? Russian or Italian? Thanks

I use pine tongue-and-groove shiplap boards from homedepot to build my bee boxes. The back side of the boards (the inside for the hive) is roughed up for glue to stick the wood to the walls. Works great and cheap!

David thank for the info about wild bees, as I trying to collect them here in Queensland in Australia . Finding wild hive lot better for less hive Beatles, and large honey runs.

I scrape propolis to get it out of my way, but I leave it in the hive. I stash it in the corners or drop it to the bottom board.

Regarding catching swarms as opposed to buying nucs. I live in central coastal california. I originally started with two purchased nucs in early spring 2024. that same spring swarm season I caught 10 swarms the first time I attempted trapping. I was amazed how easy it was. Not kidding. My traps were double stacked nuc sized boxes with five waxed frames inside with a single squirt of swarm commander under the top lid. My first honey harvest ever was 30 gallons! More importantly, binge all of David's videos and you will be better beekeeper without a doubt. Don't bee afraid. you can do it!

In my experience roughing up the interior of the box for additional Propolis deposits and not having a serious IPM program up and running is placing the cart before the horse as insects aren’t affected by it and if left unchecked you will loose a hive to invading insects much more often than to a virus. I make IPM a priority then test with additional ideas like increasing propolis. I have played with the concept a bit but have chosen to focus on nutrition and expanding the IPM external zones in an attempt to prevent/reduce pest entry into the hive body in the first place.

Qld AU = Queensland Australia Varroa destructor is already in the adjoining state New South Wales. It's only a matter of time before it gets here in Queensland We are already doing 4 monthly alcohol washes to monitor for the mite. So far, zero mites in Queensland
