I've been lifting my frames out just like she did since I got my hives this year. I found it was easier for me to get a solid hold on the frame and lift the frame

Lol, I figured out the "Martin Maneuver" my 1st year of bee keeping. Then again I've got small hands too, so maybe that's why.

Woah! My name is Martin, and I also intuitively rest the frame on the side in the exact same manner, no one taught me, just is easier. So I feel calling it the Martin Maneuver is VERY fitting!

I've also used that method since my very first inspection. No one showed me. I never saw it done on a video. It just seemed intuitively logical. I think I'll simply call it "the easiest way to lift a frame" method 😜

Hi David, thanks for teaching and showing the fine little nuances that are never taught.

Thank you for this. Basics need to be taught also. Hive tool manipulation is not easy.

Tips: always keep 2+ hive tools on hand. That way you always have at least 1 at hand, you can use 1 to scrape gunk off the other, you can use 1 to assist at the other end of a box or frame as shown in this video, and you have a backup if you lose one or your friend walks off with it. 😉

Will say got to be very careful when the hive tool is in your hand as when you bend or flex your hand, the hive tool can actually hit the frame or bees had that happen to me about 7 years ago keep your wits about you at all times. I have made a magnetic hive tool holder I used two wrist nail holders and put them around my belt.

The way she does frames the way I do mine. It just kind of came natural

I always have to stick the hive tool between the frames where they touch to break the seal first or that part of the frame will break at that point before I try and pry to separate

Me too
@shanedavis5787Ай бұрын
David, what do you do about frames that so propolised they want to break when removing?
@beekАй бұрын
Separate them first by placing your hive tool between the side bars where they connect.

I just checked one of my hives and there is zero eggs or larvae. I saw the queen, bought her this summer! What do you think is going on? I live in Ohio

Did you ever wonder what the slotted hole in all hive tools is for ? Man think it is for hanging their tool. Yes it does work but not what it was designed for.

You sat your hive tool down 😅

Like I said, sometimes you just have to. 😀
