David- I noticed you didn't put anything under the screened bottom board after adding the formic pro. I feel like I heard somewhere that you should insert the plastic piece under the bottom board when treating, any truth to that?

I placed the white bottom board sheet under the hive. Watch it all the way through

Did you wear a respirator mask while applying the Formic Pro? It's very strong stuff!😷

High 90’s next week. Not concerned with the temp restrictions on formic?

1st 3 days are the ones to watch and they are fine.

You mentioned a few times that it's Fall? We are only 75% through summer... Still 3 weeks left to go. Are you using the term Fall in some new context?

Because it's frosting in some places already.

Ok David, I'll bite, why does the Formic Pro package appear censored and the Apiguard and Apivar weren't?
@josephvenezia3481 Жыл бұрын
When he showed it the second time it didn't seem censored. Maybe it didn't focus?
@cyclicl7312 Жыл бұрын
It looks like it was the light and angle on the package.

Cheched on my bees last evening and combs in one of the hives were having holes(bitten like) and some magotts and of course with reduced bees yet all the combs were tight on top bars. Seeking guidance sir. Thank you

Thank you for this! I have some formic pro I plan to treat with in a few weeks after I test. If I have less than 2-3% mites, would you just test again in the fall and if still low, just let it go without treatment?
@chuckgross6024 Жыл бұрын
David, does your mite test container leak? Mine has since new 😢. Not a big deal, but I bought it thinking it was not going to leak as it has a seal on the lid.
@beek Жыл бұрын
It has to do with getting it sealed correctly. This one did at first, but I wasn't sealing it down correctly. Play with it with some water and see if you can get it to seal.

@beek not sure if I've ever seen a video on this question i have..i have honey supers that the queen laid in. The bees hatched but now i have half capped frames.. could i cut the capped comb out to harvest?
@petrafischer6599 Жыл бұрын
Why is it allowed with the super on but it’s not in Europe, you find studies there that formic acid is found in honey.

Your a great kind beekeeper
@soapisalye Жыл бұрын
You say that you're not gonna say what kind of bees they are cause we'd want some. I'm not gonna lie, I'd buy a nuc from that queen. Cause yeah, they're way calmer then my hives. There's reason why we call one hive Thunderdome (with Queen Tina Turner)

With Formic Pro, the 20 day treatment is for mite control, whereas the single 7 day treatment is for mite eradication. From personal experience I can say that this is about right...I only use the 7 day regime with both strips now.
@MikeNappier Жыл бұрын
Formic Pro is my preference as well. One thing I learned from one of their reps is that the 14 and 20 day treatments are not equivalent. According to the company the 20 day treatment is not as effective at getting mites underneath the caps.

Seems like ita a good idea to use them all at different times. Probably a good idea to rotate them all out with OA, Hopguard3.
