David mentioned his black Friday sale on his courses. As someone who has been buying these courses I highly recommend David's courses to anyone considering buying them. David is a great teacher and his courses dive deeper into beekeeping than you can go in these videos. Best money I've spent on beekeeping hands down.

What I'm struggling with this November I don't think you can help with. In the beginning of August I got 14 two day old chicks. And then the end of August I got 8 more. About that time I split the older ones in 2 groups. Giving the smaller ones less competition. Inside my coop I have a small coop. Like the cute but not really great ones. In September I moved the older ones out. And mid October the younger ones. So far they are all doing well. But it is about time to release some of the larger ones. Always worry about that. So, it's not just bees. Any creature you decide to raise can be a trial. But it is people like you who give us a better chance of success. So thank you. I feel more confident beginning my bee adventure in the Spring.

I enjoy your videos. I’m a new bee keeper this year. I wish I would have started sooner, I love it. I’m in Northern AZ. 6600 foot elevation. Snow, as early as oct and even into may. I started with two hives, now have 4. Did a walk away split with success and did a cut out yesterday. I read several books before I started and watched literally hundreds of videos. I’m interested in doing some of your courses this winter so thanks for the Black Friday special. I got 110 lbs of honey while leaving 1 medium box full of honey on the 2 original hives, they are still both packed with bees, no brood though. Even the split is doing well. Anyway, thanks for the videos, looking forward to the courses.

Spring! Nice!! Some options are to take a picture of your frames then from the comfort of your home, review the photos and see if you can see things more clearly, or walk away from the hive with a frame, set it on a picnic table like you've seen me do, bees and all, let them calm down, then use a magnifying glass.

David, thanks for the good info. I'm new to beekeeping. I "adopted" a swarm collected by a pest control company in October. We are in South Texas so temps are mild right now. The queen is laying and they are trying to build up stores for Winter. I fear they may not have enough food to last. How can I get them through the winter? I've been feeding 2:1 syrup, and pollen patties. I put in entrance reducer on this hive and my one other hive. I'm worried about robbing from this one hive. I would like to possibly assist pest control so we can salvage bees instead of killing them. Maybe a video of rescuing swarms would help people like me and others? Just a thought...

I have lost two hives to wax moths. I have one have that I think I got overzealous with and put too many brooders on it. Being that it will be hot next week in the '70s and '80s during the day can I consolidate that hive down to two brooders instead of three. Because they have just gathered in the center of all three brooders. I am still feeding my bees. It's still staying 60 and above during the day and it gets a little cooler at night. Do you weed eat around your bees or you just spray the weeds for them to die?

Mr. Burns, just ordered 3 of your 10 frame screened feeder boards and feed supplements. I’m in SWFL where there’s a “winter” for maybe a couple weeks… I’m new started in April by rescuing/transplanting bees from a screech owl box I made….. Well 7 hives later,…. I have a problem. I have a issue “killing” bees to get a mite count. As a career firefighter it’s not in my blood to kill anything, that being said, I realize it’s for the health of the rest of the colony. What’s your opinion on Randy Oliver’s mite wash technique or using essential oils in the hive? Thanks, Jason.🇺🇸

Another 'year later' question - - is it ever okay to leave the mouse guard [with divergent entry for bees] on ALL winter (vs. traditional wood entrance reducer)? I'm contemplating using your wrap method with the winter-bee-kind feeders on 3 of the 4. (SW Michigan location) Thanks for your consideration AND the great videos, David!

Hey Dave, love your videos. I am in my first year of beekeeping in North Florida (Lake City). I had a bit of trouble, lost my queen and had to requeen. The new queen was such a good one, she laid eggs everywhere, including my honey super. So I only harvested two frames of honey. Trying to get ahead of the game, I recently installed an excluder.. now I have to go remove it. Lesson learned. My question is how do you plan for growth as far as equipment. I know I will need to do a split in the spring to prevent a swarm. So I will end up with at least one extra hive, maybe two. How many deep boxes do I need? (most people around here only use one deep). How many supers can I expect to need with an established hive? I have all intentions of taking your course after black Friday. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
@beek
@beek 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Raleigh, if you have one hive, always have enough equipment for the next one. If you have 5 hives have enough equipment for 2 future hives just incase you cannot purchase enough equipment if you want to split or catch swarms. Have equipment on hand.

If you want heat to stay in why have upper entrance
@beek
@beek 2 жыл бұрын
Bees do not heat the inside of their hive like we do our homes, rather they keep each other warm by forming a cluster. They create excess moisture during the winter that collects near the top, so it is best to have an upper ventilation to exhaust that stale and moist air from the hive.

David, when you start adding your candy boards in December how does the lid get warm enough to seal again? I don't wrap my hives like you do however, I am considering a nice piece of insulation in the lid. I'm getting ready to pull my feeding quarts from my hive and I'm planning to leave an empty super on the brood box . I'm not using a candy board, sorry....but I'm going to use newspaper or newsprint paper and layer it with several pounds of raw sugar, and the bee's CO2 will cause the sugar to crust over . I will leave enough space to lay the protein patties on the other half. I checked the weight of just the brood box last week, like you do...by lifting from bottom. It had to weigh at least 50 pounds, if not more. I'm beginning to feel more confident that they will make it through the winter. Love your videos, thank you for what you do!

Hi Sharon, early on I found my bees needed too much moisture to liquify the raw sugar to make it edible, so the bees just dropped it out of the hive. The best plan is to allow the excess hive moisture to liquify the candy board as the bees need it.

@beek
@beek 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carla, as long as it is not a swarm with a new queen, you can take your hive apart and remove the bottom board and shake those bees back in the hive. If it is not from your hive, shake them into a new hive. Look for a queen first.
@charrison2005
@charrison2005 2 жыл бұрын
@@beek Thanks for your reply David. Yesterday, I scooped the cluster off the screened bottom board and put them in a plastic bin to set out in the yard. I did not see a queen. I closed up the screened bottom board with the plastic pull out. Last night the cluster was hanging outside the hive near the front entrance. I scooped them up again and put them in a medium box for the night. I’ll check again today to see if they have a queen. Unsure of what is going on with my hive and why this cluster is hanging around I went ahead and did a hive inspection and found that the lower deep had been depleted of resources. I didn’t see a queen in my hive but I did see about 10 uncapped larva in the medium super that is full of capped and uncapped nectar. I’m not sure what to do next. How would I know if the cluster of bees are from my hive or a cluster trying to take over my hive ?

Should have waited another day to place my candy board on. Then I would have know from this video to wait a bit longer. To early is better than to late I guess. Was so worried with the weather being how its been that they'd eat into their stores. I went a slightly different way on feeding my bees liquid. I decided to use a community feeder. My reasoning behind this was that they could feed while they weather was nice without being bothered with hive openings.
@beek

If you place a candy board on too early, you miss the chance to feed them liquid, and if it warms up alot it could melt the entire board too fast.
