Some time ago I was involved in a motor vehicle accident and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. Bee keeping has made my life a little less hectic. There are many times a day I go out and just watch the bees go in and out of their hive without it seems a care in the world. It has made me realize there are so many other things in the world and has actually helped me get a stress relief and a new purpose in life.

I too had an accident (Car by 3rd Party 😡) Anyhow, Beekeeping keeps you focused : Off Pain, when watching Bees, or even doing an Inspection (I have to use a Spare Box, go through, lift out each Frame,) Box by Box. May take some time, but I can't Lift a x10 Frame Box anyway how. 😖 And, I love my x5 over x5 Nuc Hives. And if I feel that's way to much... A Horizontal Hive is a no Brainer ! Awesome Hive for those who are Physically Challenged, or can't Stack Regular Boxes, due to Landscape, Weather, or Scared Neighbours. H.H are a Win, Win. ✔ Just love the H.H Colony. They are my Bee Engine for new Colonies (Splits: Made several this Year,) so have a Great Apiary of a Horizontal Hive, a few Langstroth Hives. A UK National, x5 Nucs of both Langs and Nats. Oh and a new Addition of a Warre Hive. It's a Fabby Hive of Bees and Honey. Taking that off next Spring.... 😏 Bees can teach you loads, and, keep 'those moments of Rubbish' at arms length ! And a Beesuit, Smoker, Gloves. also help with this to. 🤣 Yet it may feel at Times ? : 👀 Really do I need to do XYZ ? Cant I just put it off !?! Nope ! DO the Bees... 👀 Now mentoring a Newbie Beek in next Town Over, may be in my Second Year of Bees..., But when your teaching another, it certainly shows you do have Skill and Passion keeping Bees. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Nice Video David : Put my Bee Pupil your way. Both saying Hi from a cooler, very Autumnal 🍂 Scotland ! 🏴

My grandfather raised bees for years. He passed away 2 years ago at 101 years old. My passion to get into bee keeping was because of his love and fascination with bees. I wish he was here to help mentor me, but I think of him often while at the farm. It’s almost magical watching them flying in and out of the hive. It’s taught me patience, appreciation and there is wonder all around us.

I'm 71 years old and always lived in an urban area until 6 years ago. I'm going into year 5 as a beekeeper and have had some great successes, as well as some big losses. This video is exactly my current problem. Additionally, I lost the majority of my colonies this summer so I'm down to 3 from 9. Beekeeping has taught me to be patient and not stress about my losses. This way I can enjoy my bees. Sitting in the apiary and watching them is very zen! Yes, this has been very disappointing - I repeatedly had swarms immediately following several days of rain here in Virginia. They even swarmed next to me when I was working another hive for swarm mitigation. Argh. But I already have a plan for spring. Last year I purchased some queens from California and they were amazing layers. Their colonies were very strong. I'll order 3 for the spring to put in nucs. Thank you for your videos. I have tried your feeding plan and it has worked well for me.

I was always taught that you were to stay busy, work hard and do your best. That is how I have tried to live my life. Observing bees has given me a new appreciation for that teaching. Those are the only things a new knows how to do and they have shed new light on those things for me... Always busy, the slackers in the hive. Everyone has a job to do and does it without question. Work hard. All you have to do is open a hive...no one is taking a break. Doing your best. What a new does in the hive, from making honey to tending brood is done with precision. The we have all been great reminders for me and great teaching moments for my grandchildren. Very much appreciate your wisdom and insight.

I found a swarm on the road outside our home. I managed to rescue some of them with an egg carton from all being squished. I put it down near them and they all ran onto it. So then I had to get them off the road, no gloves, no veil, no smoke. It was pretty heart stopping for someone who knew nothing about swarms. The next day they were still in the box I put the carton in so I ran around getting something to put them in but they were gone by the time I was organised. It has started me on a path of bee keeping. I now have one hive and am trying to get up to speed with the what, when, where and how of keeping healthy bees. Every time I go out to the hive there is something magical about it. Your videos are a great help. ❤

Keeping bees has impacted me in several ways. It has made me really observant, not only of bees, but pollen bearing plants and the relationship between these plants and bees. Beekeeping has made me appreciate these small insects and their impact on the local environment and beyond. Beekeeping has helped me think logically as I consider management of my hives and provided my aging brain with a lot of stimulus. I believe bee keeping has made me a more aware and thoughtful process of the intricacy of nature and the fine balance between each of the components that have always surrounded us. I have learned patience and appreciation of the wonder of nature through my beekeeping and enjoy using it as a connection with my grandchildren - the oldest one even did a Kindergarten Science Fair project on bees! It has given me a new connection with my husband as he helps me with the bees, making equipment and devising homemade solutions to some of the bee challenges I have faced. The responsibility for my bees keeps me in tune with serving a greater need and has provided hours of pleasant contemplative time as I clean equipment and do general management chores. I believe bee keeping has enriched my life, given me a sense of purpose and a source of continued self-education.

My best friend and I were both individually interested in bee keeping (but we didn't know the other was interested - just never talked about it). I live in a condo with a small yard with little sun, so even though I joined a bee club 5 yrs ago, I didn't have the chance to start keeping a colony. My best friend passed away suddenly this past May. A friend of his I had met & I became closer in our grief & she told me Jim had wanted to keep bees, & she had introduced him to a man who has bees, but he could never get Jim to really commit. Since Jim's property was more suitable, I was given permission to put a hive out there. I bought a nuc & now have a really nice colony. I feel close to Jim with I'm with the bees & they bring me peace knowing I'm carrying on an endeavor Jim was interested in starting himself. Thanks Dave for all your videos & advice!

Last year I searched for our bees but alas very few. This year that has changed. Now I enjoy watching honeybees, bumblebees and wild bees all working together. And I got to tell you our harvest this year has been unreal. Now I can't wait for winter where I can break from cooking and preserving. We have only pulled two frames this year for honey and it is amazing the difference between spring and fall honey (color and taste). Has greatly improved retirement.

I am planning on installing my first packages or nucs this coming spring -- so I'm a "neebee." These are some of the things that I have learned from bees: you can't keep bees on your own -- our least you shouldn't. What I mean by that is beekeeping is a skill/art that has been passed down from generation to generation. All present beekeepers stand on the shoulders of all those that have come before them. Most of the knowledge we possess today has been gleaned from hard-fought lessons learned from the past. In addition to the past, I have learned that we all need help from our contemporaries. For example, your videos and book have been of inestimable help to me in learning the fundamentals of beekeeping (also the many other excellent books and bee journals). As an Illinoian myself, I have joined the Illinois State Beekeepers Association as well as NIBA (the Northern IL chapter). NIBA's mentoring program has given me a great deal of Northern IL beekeeping knowledge as well as the hands-on experience that I desperately need. I have also been fortunate enough to be mentored by a commercial beekeeper in my area. His monthly beekeeping classes have also been very informative and the hands-on experience invaluable. Lastly, I've "joined" a virtual Saturday morning bee meeting of the Foxvalley Beekeepers Association. Our "Breakfast with Bees" is a great chance to network with others and just "talk bees." Saturday mornings have become one of the highlights of my week! All of these people have taught and encouraged me a great deal. Without their help I'd be all the poorer aspiring beekeeper! All our success as beekeepers is a joint venture!

I am starting my beekeeping career in the Spring with 2 packages. I’ve enjoyed learning about the life cycle of the worker bees. With no ego, they step up and do the necessary job(s) without a second thought to their own selfish desires. I believe this is how mankind started, a servant mind for our fellow man but somehow, somewhere we lost the “honeybee attitude”. #NotTooLateToChange

I love enjoy sharing my honey with others and explaining the way bees act and why. You’d have to say I’m addicted to them, can’t seem to get enough. Beekeeping has taught me more about patience than anything. You need patience to have success with the little honey's. That is just how it is.

I'm a fairly new beekeeper, this is my first winter. This has focused me on learning everything I can, since I am now responsible for a lot of little lives.

This is my first year as a backyard beekeeper. I know that I don’t know enough and need to keep learning. Beekeeping is like a fun science experiment that never ends. I learned the hard way you can’t throw a package of bees in a box and call it a day. Hive beetles took over and my bees took the midnight train back to Georgia.

I love the problem solving of beekeeping. My one hive turned into 4 hives this past spring because I didn’t understand the swarming behavior. I’ve learned to listen to the hive, they tell you when they have had enough messing around.

The bees have really gotten me more in touch with the world around me. I pay much more attention to the life cycle of all of the plants and trees.

Beekeeping has taught my fiance and me how to work together and be patient. It's also taught us that even when you think you are doing everything right sometimes you are thrown a curve ball and you have reevaluate the situation and react accordingly. This is our first year beekeeping and we have 3 hives. One of the hives may have lost their queen we are going back in this week which is 10 days after we noticed no eggs or larvae to see if we have any eggs or larvae. If not we may have to combine with our other two hives. Thanks for all the helpful information and your online beekeeping course has been a great resource as well for us.

Beekeeping had taught me there are multiple options for one given scenario. At first I thought it'd be simple... boy was I enlightened. As a first year Beek, it's definitely opened my eyes to all the surroundings and what they effect.
