14:49 put the top cover on now without putting frames back in.. your gonna have a mess of comb jumble before long.. i left a swarm catch in a 10 frame deep brood box for a season with just 2 frames and got to practice my first cut out, had to cut off the corners of the metal covered lid, break off the sides and use a 12' long bread/cake knife to cut around the lid and separate the comb... it was an interesting learning curve lol.. the really funny part is they ignored the 2 frames i had in the box and i still had enough comb to rubber band up 11 deep frames.

After the air bubbles rise to the top of the honey, lay a piece of saran wrap on top. The air bubbles will stick to it and when you remove the saran wrap, the bubbles will come up with it. Then the honey on the wrap can be used at home. No waste.

Thank you sooo much for this video, very helpful especially since I have not harvested it before. I do not yet have an extractor and my husband and I do love comb, So I was thinking … since we really do not care if it is the most beautiful honey, that I will just scrape off comb and put all of the bits with the honey in the jars 🤷🏽‍♀️
@beek
@beek 6 күн бұрын
This works better with wax foundation, but if you have plastic foundation you'll have to scrap it off. It's destructive and makes for a lot of work for the bees to repair it, but sounds like you're not hurting for much honey just some, so that should work fine. Unless you have wax moth or SHB eggs in the comb, then they will hatch in your jar.
@brookeodonnell2701

2:15. I really like using an escape board. Put it on under the supers you want to harvest midday and by next morning you'll be left with a handful of bees in the super/s. Makes life so much easier than trying to clear off hundreds or thousands of bees.

Hey Dave, can you please tell me what you do with the frames that have had the honey already extracted out? I really don’t want to put them back on, because my hives currently have four supers on them, and I want to start getting them down to just a couple of supers, to start getting them ready for the fall feeding and getting them ready for the winter months. Can you store them safely, in a cool spot, and what do you do about keeping them free from getting bugs in them, mites, moths, etc. I have two hives, both of my hives are strong and doing well. This past spring I had a total of six swarms, five of which we were able to capture, and gave to my friend to start new hives. Anyway, how do you store your extracted frames for next year’s use.
