4 year beekeeper and I have never had a queen lay up in the supper. Stays in the bottom with 1 deep box only. Maybe I'm just lucky. It could be that North Idaho doesn't get rolling till June so there's not as many brood.

Hay David. How about a video explaining how to remove all your supers at once for harvesting? I get asked a lot by new beeks, that if they take all the supers off, what will happen to all the bees that were in those supers now they have considerably less room. I like the idea of removing a frame in the hive for more maneuver room. Both my 8 frame and 10 frame Flowhive brood boxes are very tight, almost too tight to get the frames out without rolling bees (and after smoke).

I did just the opposite on drawing out new comb on the super. I have a QE just below the top feeder from the start as a super is added the QE goes below it. My mentor said it’s to train the bees to move thru the QE. I did it his way and they build up before building out. My opinion that’s fine since I can checker board the brood and eventually the supers. So far the bees have adjusted but I just have 3 hives

Im hearing 5-7 frames and add another deep. 5 frames is a new nuc so you’re suggesting to add a deep as soon as you start with your nuc. I not quite sure that’s right

You could but that’s when I usually allow a nice to expand to 7. But it’s not rocket science so 5-7 is a good range.

Nice Video ! Except. . . When you have a Warre Hive : then you add new Supers at the Entrance ! What an upside down Bee Hive Work a Beek has to know. . . 🙃 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Just done a Split off my Warre Hive. Yep both 'Hives' will be 'under Supered' ! 😉 Talk about a Walk Away Split. Just that : Lifted off a Box of Busy Bees. Added a New Box of Frames (I've decided to move away from Warre Top Bars : to much Wax adhesions on doing a Honey Harvest ! And I don't like the Mash & Strain / losing that Comb Strain method.) So these Dinky Frames will go through my Manual Honey Extractor. Nice. 😉 Warre Hives are Honey Comb Supers at floor level and or above. Then the Brood Box(es) and finally the Quilt Box above that the Roof. And 'Walked Away.' EASY to do. 👍 Looking forward to seeing a New Colony and Queen in the weeks to come. 😎 We are having Amazing Flows here ! Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 can be Sunny and Warm sometimes, May has been Amazing ! If my bees have drawn out two deep brood boxes, but I’m still feeding them 1:1 sugar water (about 1/4 of a gallon a day) should I put a supper on it? I’ve always heard not to put a supper on if they are still eating what I’m feeding them.

When you start out with a brood box or a honey super that has 10 frames and the bees have drawn out 5-7 frames with wax and or have expanded on to those frames, add another box.

Hry David, we love your videos-we are first year beekeepers, and what started out as one hive has quickly turned into 5-my husband works with them every day and absolutely loves it. I don't work with them as much(I'm allergic, and getting over my fear of bees) but I am learning so much. Two of our hives have started doing rather poorly, with a lot of dead bees (but still have healthy bees working then) scattered on the ground in front for the last three mornings-my husband is thinking of getting a nuc, and putting the brood in these hives to try and save them-is this the right move, or should we just keep feeding and see what happens??

Im legally blind (achromatopsia) and i have a really hard time finding queens. So unfortunately i have to use an excluder. Is there anything i can do to the frames to encourage the bees to build comb in the super?
