I am wanting to start beekeeping next year. I am in the southwest. New Mexico near El Paso Texas. When would you recommend starting new hives?

I am noticing since COVID I am having more and more new beekeepers ordering packages and nucs from me, I am also selling more hive kits, it's only the end of December and my pre-orders for spring of 2025 are already up 20% from the year before. Santa-Claus is bringing me a new commercial double sided horizontal extractor for the shop kitchen this year, I'm excited about that one. ☺

I know a guy in one of the bee discord channels I am in, he lives over in Asia that deals with tropilaelaps mites, he was talking about that mite in one of the chats and how they deal with it, he said they often cage the queens to give a break in the brood, he said the mite eggs cannot survive more than 3 to 4 days outside of uncapped brood and he went into a long list of schedules and times of the year to do it that work best "for them" to prevent the colony from struggling. Hopefully here in the US you are correct and we don't see it in North America.
