I believe you and I our the only two beekeepers in the world that use red paint on hive boxes. Beekeepers have been told that bees do not see red. Which is correct. However, what they are not told is bees see black instead of red. And it’s okay to paint your hives red. I generally use different color boxes on a hive. Good video! Great work!! Appreciate you Sir!!

Ha Peter I enjoyed the video I have been a beekeeper for 8 years now and I so much enjoy watching videos when I first started there was nothing on the web now there is a great number of beekeepers putting out videos and they are good, and I am still learning and it is wonderful, i wont be doing the single box brood chamber because I use 8 frame boxes but I will be using the swarm control method. do you ever do the compleat shake down split, where u take the queen and all the open brood but 1 frame of eggs and put them in another box taking them away, all the capped brood worker bees and 1 frame of eggs is in the mother hive, they say they make u more honey because all the brood that emerges become workers they have no young to care for and they make them selves a queen in the shake down split there is no swarming at all and no worries of any the queen has no field bees and the mother hive has no queen I thank you for doing the videos have a blessed week

Thanks Peter! Im binge watching your vids at the moment. I love how you dont edit the things that might catch you out. Im a new beekeeper with 2 beehives in my small back garden in the North of UK. I love the idea of bringing the 2 open brood boxes down to one. If I do this in June here I fear their might be a chance of swarming, due to the bottom box over crowding. Or will the process of the upper box hatching and entering the bottom box run into July therfore not much chance of swarming by then. Sorry for the daft question. I may be over thinking things. 😊

No daft questions. Chances of swarming depends upon the honey flow and your timing ideally bring the down just before. Keep an eye on the lower chamber until you get the feel for it.

Hi Peter, I've heard you say this a few times so with all due respect I feel you need to be corrected. It is the Summer solstice. The equinox is when daylight and darkness are about equal (equinox). The solstices are the longest and shortest daylight and darkness. Keep up the great work on your videos. Thanks.

Peter, just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge as a bee keeper. I am in my 5th year and I have learned so much from you I now consider myself a real bee keeper. I live in upstate NY and I got 3 out of 6 hives through the winter and have split a now have 8 colonies. I was wondering how many hives you care for? Just wondering.........................
