This series has been extremely valuable and informative for me. Thanks for explaining so well what and why you do particular steps. I really appreciate the initial video as well as the follow ups to show how things progress after the initial manipulation. I live near St. Louis MO and and going to attempt a Demaree split this year thanks to your great instructions!

Just found your Demeere Swarm video. Great Information! We're you able to keep the hive from swarming by crushing the queen cells? Thanks for sharing.

Second box down a bit more moisture eh but still okay. I have taken 1 frame of honey from my bee’s last year and it was capped on just one side blank on the other. I have a large pot for hives and I’m just trying to split hives from a package and a nuc too 100 hives. Had 17 last year then came the bear. We shall see how many I have at the end of this year. It’s amazing how many hives you and others keep. Cheers

HI, I want to try this method. This is my 9th spring of beekeeping. a few questions: 1. Can I do this method with 2 deeps and a super already on there now? 2. Can I use a hive cover for the second entrance instead of a shim (don't have)? 3. What do you do with the top deep when the new queen starts laying? Move to another bottom board and make a completely separate new hive? Thanks
@sidelinerbeekeeper2 жыл бұрын
With the excape board in place, driving down two deeps and a medium worth of bees (30,000 bees in one deep as you say) forcing them into the lower boxes, the queen felt congested before this action; do you believe the bees won't try to swarm now that they only have half the space?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer2 жыл бұрын
It will be crouded for a day but as I said I will be adding more space, hoever I also want the comb honey capped so its a ballancing act to achieve.

After destroying the queen cells could the colony still swarm and leave the original colony “queenless” and without any queen cells? Thx Dave SE Ohio

How soon before the honey flow did you start the method?
@rn-kf1ib8 ай бұрын
awesome video as usual.. quick question. since the honey suppers were cured and ready to be harvested why not just shack the bees off the frames and harvest the honey?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer8 ай бұрын
You certainly can do that

why are the bees still making swarm sells in the brood chamber after all that room up top?

These are my Italians...not my favorites but they have done a great job this year.
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer2 жыл бұрын
Their instinct is to reproduce when the going is good. They filled much of that space with honey and had filled the brood chamber with brood.

I would think that the bees in the upper boxes believing they have no queen would greatly increase the risk of laying workers.

When was this video filmed? At what point do you leave the cells and allow them to sort themselves out? Will they swarm if you left the cells intact? Bit late for swarming isn't it Whisperer?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer2 жыл бұрын
Filmed and published yesterday. The point of the manipulation is to make a super big colony and yet avoid swarming so they can make a big honey crop.
