From South Africa.Thank you i am so exited, a nother agressive African bees swarm moved in today and i will wait 4 weeks and then relocate them 20 metres to the new spot to protect my property. The hives are all around my house and i never again had thives in my house trying to rob or kill me. After sun set my dogs patrol my house.

I've been subscribed for a while but only just found this video and glad I did as I've had to move me bees to a new location about 50m from where they were.

Great tip for moving a hive.✌🏻

As odd as it might sound I actually have no problems moving my bees anywhere from 6 to 50 ft so far I did get a little cluster of about 30-50 bees hanging out where they used to be but they return back to the hive then they would leave and then return back to the hive...

Can you please show this in row of hives during summer?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer7 ай бұрын
When you have a row of hives you plan first so you do dont need to move them!!! To attempt to move several hive from one place to another in the same yard WILL result in a lot of confusion but can be done, don't expect them to like it! ;)

You mentioned it's too cold for flight. If there is no flight for the day, you can move that hive anywhere you want to and the bees will REORIENT to the new location without issue, and without bothering with branches etc. If the bees don't leave the hive, for whatever reason, for 24 to 32 hours, they will forget where they live and will therefore orient to their current location again when they fly next. In this case, those branches were not necessary.

how long do you leave the branches in front of the hive?

a few days

I've seen Mr Ed's crew use a hive box mover thats metal and its a 2 man tool. Makes moving boxes very easy... Thats more than 80 feet away. More like 200.

Whenever I move a hive I always use a strap around it to keep things in place.

Nice. But if there was another hive closer to previous location, then no single bee would understand your video and would return to nearest (the other) hive to the previous location. Except the case, you moved it before first spring flight. And in this case is no difference between this covering of hive entance or no action... During the winter season is erased their "programming" about location.

Yes, you are right. Most bees will go to the nearest hive to their new location , however adding lots of new obstacles and forcing a new orientation flight re-set will help to have many find the correct position. Best plan is good planning, BEFORE you have more than one hive!

I keep feeding sugar water on a daily basis to a bunch of bees, now I will be putting a beehive in place. I live on an acre and how far do they have to be from my mobile home? and will they find the beehive? someone please help. Someone is getting me a beehive for my birthday and I want to enjoy the bees and honey.

Best to leave feeding to your new hive. You'll learn that beekeepers would rather not have their bees collecting sugar syrup which will mix with their honey....and please never feed store bought honey to bees as it can spread disease.
