What I found funny about balatro in the game awards was that so many people who have not played were mad it was even a nominee, then they played it them selves and immediately apologized publicly. Truly, this game is like digital cocain

seeing people just starting in balatro is always so funny. the absolutely UNIVERSAL experience of thinking that things like royal/straight flushes MUST be the best hands and then being extremely confused. also the universal experience of sitting here with bloodshot eyes, gripping my knee hard enough that it's almost bleeding, saying 'he's new. of course he would skip DNA. that's fine. that's normal. that is a normal thing to do and i don't need to leave a comment about it, he'll find out, he probably already knows by the time he uploaded this. it's normal. i'm normal.'

Great video! love the game small tip if you haven't noticed until now: if you play only 2-3 cards because it's just a pair or three of a kind you can always just throw in cards that you don't need for a free discard, don't need to waste a discard in the next turn then :D

I started doing that towards the end of my time playing for the video and have been doing it a bunch since. I've had a few ''maybe I'm tired'' moments where I'll throw out 2 pair, + 1 junk turs out its a flush and gets me less score than the 2 pair would have ''fml!''

Starting out with flushes and full houses and thinking the game is easy is a canon event. (Both are perfectly fine early in a run. Full houses are weird to build around since you might as well aim for four of a kind or the like instead. Flushes don't scale well with planets and can get hosed by bosses, though they can certainly work.)

You're not actually gambling. It just uses poker hands and cards for its ''combat''. The charm comes similar to games like Isaac, Risk of Rain or other rogues where you can become massively overpowered. Building a deck with powerful cards and Jokers that multiply your score. It's like you're dealing damage when you play a strong hand. So the drive is less of a gambling addiction and more of the old rogue ''just 1 more run'' addicton.

I am sorry, but this one was already a pass for me. I tried it, think it is very polished and all. Got a w on second or third try and... sorry, refunded. Not fun enough for me. The final boss also felt extremely cheap, randomly throwing my build out the window. Really not fun. But got my W, yay

The random factor is what a Roguelike is all about. There's a RIDICULOUS amount of stuff to unlock in this though. I can easily see it taking dozens of hours to get all the decks and unlockables.

I really REALLY don't think "Your build is now disabled" is a fun mechanic for a climax final challenge on a roguelike. You've learned the game mechanics, crafted something with a lot of thought and decision making and the final boss disables it lmao Beatable, but felt cheap to me. Anyway, good to see a lot of people love it!
