Ants have domesticated aphids. Ants protect herds of aphids from predators while the aphids feed on plants, and then 'milk' the aphids for digested saps in the form of honeydew. They'll even move a herd of aphids from one plant to another, much like cowboys moved herds of cattle. In the wintertime, the ants will store aphid eggs underground in warm chambers, bringing them to feed on plants in the springtime after they hatch and produce more honeydew.

For the record, as a Swede, I can shed light on the Donald Duck situation: When Swedes feel that none of the politicians available during an election are worth voting for and we want to bring awareness to our discontent, we vote for Donald Duck. It's kind of a statement along the lines of "I'd rather have Donald Duck in charge of Sweden than any of these buffoons." Also, on the topic of Heidrun: Yeah, the vikings actually did believe that there was a goat in Valhalla that produced mead. And what's wrong with that, anyway? It's pretty much the equivalent of hoping there's a beer dispenser in heaven... The vikings also believed there was a big boar in Valhalla that could be butchered every day in order to provide meat for the nightly feast and every morning it would've resurrected again. (The goats that pulled Thor's chariot were under the effects of a similar enchantment: As long as their bones were unharmed, they would resurrect with no harm done. In one story, a boy breaks the goats' bones in order to suck out the marrow and the goats end up with a limp because of the boy's actions. The boy has to pay back Thor by becoming his squire, and caretaker of the goats, for the rest of his life.)

@J6248 жыл бұрын
no, I just looked it up. sentience is just having the ability to perceive or feel things. Sapience is "having or showing great wisdom or sound judgment". All living things are sentient, while only a few species are considered sapient. I already knew that "sentient" wasn't the right word, though.

Not all living things are sentient. Only animals in the Phylums: Chordata, Mollusca, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, and Echinodermata are able to percieve the natural world around them. You still have Sponges, Protozoans, Bacteria, and many more small animals without true brains or brains on such a small scale that it cant process its existence.

One could argue 72 officers armed to different degrees to quell the understandable rage of 100 inhabitants is pissing them in the face compared to letting the 5 rapists go.

10:00 There is actually a political party called the "Kalle Anka partiet" or the Donald Duck party in English. It is the party you vote for if no other parties are good enough. It is basiclly a lost vote, but it sends a strong message to the actual parties when the Donald Duck party gets a lot of votes.

Yes, ants have domesticated another type of insect. They're called like trephids or something (it's been a long time since i've seen their name). The trephids eat leaves and berries and are a general nuisance for crop growers. The ants kind of use the trephids like we use cows. The ants protect the trephids from other bugs and insects and once they've finished eating, the trephids produce this sugary substance that the ants absolutely adore. The trephids can't move by themselves (or they move extremely slowly) so once there's nothing left for the trephids to eat, the ants take their "herd" of trephids and move them to a better grazing spot. Ants are really smart animals!

It's not exactly slavery, more like how we treat cows. They herd them to the best parts of the plants to eat, and protect them from storms and predators. Also, they don't eat the aphids themselves they eat the sweet honeydew they secrete.

Some species of ant protect aphids and in return drink their honeydew. Ants actually stroke honeydew out of the antennae of the aphids, practically making them "insect cows" like Richard Yu said. The yellow meadow ant even manages herds of aphids!

How does a honey bee get drunk?!
@kirstycoulton73438 жыл бұрын
baby octopus are born very small, they spend a lot of of early development within the microscopic phytoplankton. Bees can become drunk from visiting fermenting fruit, some times they are that 'drunk' they can not even fly. Ants actually have formed farms both with other ants, fungi and insects, sharing resources for mutual gain.

The tarantula protects the lil froggie from predators and provides a food source from insects feeding on the remains of its prey. In turn, the frog's foraging protects the tarantula's eggs from those ants yall are so excited about
