That really controlled all fighting. The refs were very good at controlling arguments.

Division 1 men's league - plenty of fights. First time, $100 fine and one game suspension. Second time, $100 fine and three games suspension. Third time, $100 fine and five games suspension. Fighting usually stopped real early in season, then started up again near or during playoffs. Lots of fines money in the pot after a season. LOL

At first I was thinking they were using a 3 official system where the orange stripes (referee) has to let fights develop in order to observe whose committing penalties while 2 linesman intervene, but no. 2 ref system, both officials can call penalties and hold the zones. As a scorekeeper, I've had that dilemma of ending the game or let them keep playing pretty recently. Where I work there are 4 rinks; 1 arena rink (a local college plays there so they keep that rink perfect) and 3 other rinks for everything else (rink 1 is also used for everything during the summer). 2 of the rinks though arent kept very well chilled so during one game a rink developed a bunch of holes in the ice within a small area that went straight to concrete. After the first period me, the refs, the ice operators and the players debated on whether to keep playing. Players of course wanted to keep going but everyone else knew it was a safety risk. Refs filled it with snow and patted it down and we played the 2nd. It got worse after that so we had to call it and canceled the game that was next
@ThePuckStopsHere5 жыл бұрын
That would suck but totally understand the safety concern, I wouldn't want anyone to get injured for a game that doesn't mean anything.

It depends on if you want them soft or not. Realistically, it didn't take me long to get use to my pads because I bought the right size but it shouldn't take too long. The biggest think you will need to focus on is learning how to skate like a goalie. It is much different than a player.

@7:30 this guy in the grey ejection is making that up as he goes, the rule he is referring too if a goalie leaves his crease to intervene in an altercation it’s a Game misconduct. If anything if he wanted to be tick tack would be giving you two minutes for crossing the red line but that would be during play or unsportsmanlike conduct. The problem with his argument is saying you crossed the redline during the fight. Clearly in the video when you came over the fight was over, if you watch him talk he hesitates and doesn’t look you in the eye as he is saying this. He’s trying to think about how to sell this call because it’s bad enough the goalie was ejected who did leave his crease for fighting and 3rd man in. He as an official should know better to not even consider letting him back into the game after fighting especially a 3rd man in regardless if it’s beer league. (Hs/Jr/College Ref)
@ThePuckStopsHere5 жыл бұрын
These are great points and to be honest the guy in the grey jacket is one of the convenor and I doubt he was there for the entire thing. He probably was walkied to come to our rink to discuss the outcomes based on what the refs were saying. So they may have not noticed me just waiting until after it was over to go into their end. Either way, it worked out luckily.

I've been told mor than once that GoPro camera's violate that rule. Since then, my cameras have been behind the glass.
@ThePuckStopsHere2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. To be honest, I am just very nice to the refs and they don’t get mad. Also, the convener watching my channel and has okayed me to film. @@ThePuckStopsHere Markham rd? Looked familiar... so does the little man Mike is his name.. I think I've tossed him out of my club. I still have his hair if he wants it back.

In high school I was backing up, there was an injury that required some tending to so our goalie came to our bench, crossing the blue line. We had to change goalies because there was a rule that said the goalie couldn't cross the blue line except for time outs and period changes. I went in, we got a quick whistle, then I was back on the bench. I made sure to never cross the blue line after that. Still don't.

I’m sticking up for the ref here when a goalie gets involved you know all he’ll is going to break out and there is going to be more that pairing breaking out on the ice. His job at that point is to start taking numbers of players that are involved. This is men’s leagues not kids league

In high school our goalie got into a fight and got ejected and a forward had to take his place in his normal gear. He did better than out goalie. We won. 😎

@ThePuckStopsHere5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we played this team once already and I technically did get ejected but because both of us did and Liam is a great dude, we were able to stay and finish the game.

Nice job with a short bench! We always try to get subs before the game, it sucks playing tired marathon hockey.

So no matter where you hold your glove, it always end up at the same position with your fingers facing down. You have more reaction time if you hold it there
