Wanted to test out the 240FPS mode on the GH5s and try my hand at slow motion sound design. Shot this for Instagram, hence the 9/16 ratio. Upscaled to 4k to test scaling.
Setup:
- Iso 1600, 1/500th, CineD color, FHD 8Bit 100M 24P with 240fps VFR
- Metabones MFT/Nikon 0.71 + Nikkor 50mm @ f1.4
- Shot in portrait (meaning I didn't crop a 16/9 to make it 9/16 😉 )
- Recorded to MP4 (LPCM), exported from Adobe @ h.264 VBR 2 Pass 125/150Mbps, Max Depth/Quality enabled.
Thoughts:
- Need to test again at 2500 ISO to take advantage of the dual-native. 1600 was very noisy.
- The extra crop-in above 192fps leaves very little room for framing in post.
- Heavy Aliasing can be noticed on hard edges.
- Overall, a great party trick, but not production quality. Best suited for (very) short clips in KZbin videos or social media posts.
