This hiker will carry a flask of something not-as-old-as-I-am to toast oneself for making it into my last third of life-I turned 60 this year. Having a birthday in the wild is an amazing experience I’m glad I’ve had more than once. Happy Birthday Maddie!🌿

Yes, definitely! It’s always fun to look back! I finished the trail less than a month ago but I already feel so nostalgic about every place I camped, everyone I met, highs and lows…. And I’m so excited this has made you want to try backpacking! It can be dangerous, though, so make sure you do plenty of research!

Hahahahhaa!!!!! "The age of 30 is past your prime," only the VERY young would say that!!! I'm in my 60s and feel in my 30s!!! I could be 35 for the rest of time & I'd be so happy. I didn't know what was really going on until I was at LEAST 30! I got married when I was 31 and am so glad I didn't do it before. You still have your health, you look great and your mind works like a steel trap - LOL. I am very healthy, so far have my "faculties," and still love to have lots of adventures. I travel whenever I can and I'm always learning. That's the key --- just keep keepin' on and do what makes you happy! Sometimes you really can't do it until you're retired and have the time and resources!

I guess I was mainly speaking from the perspective of “this is the oldest I’ve ever been“ which is true at any age. It’s also true that this is the last time I’ll be this young, at any age. It’s really interesting to hear your perspective! I sure notice my blurring eyes, stiff muscles, and the lines in forehead, but with what you said in mind, it’s sounds like those things are pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things!

For your trekking pole, tighten the screw that’s at the latches. I had the same problem, and a cool guy at REI showed me what to do. And Happy 30th kiddo. You have decades of adventures left in your life.

You know what? I was going to try that once I got off trail because I didn’t have a screwdriver or anything similar, but now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure my multi tool I had with me had one 🙃

Good point! I notice karma happening almost instantly sometimes when I approach people either cheerfully and friendly or when I’m running on empty and not at my best. People match energy and that is karma in itself!
