Good video Larry. I have used that method and you are right, it works just fine. I now use “Keg & Carboy Cleaning Tablets”. Fill with hot water, drop in a few tablets and wait overnight. In the morning I simply rinse and the carboy is clean. We still don’t see eye-to-eye on the value of a conical fermenter, but, to each his/her own! As long as we’re happy and the beer tastes good!

I gave up on carboys and Five gallon buckets, I only use six gallon wine buckets for everything. The extra head space keeps everything in the bucket and the O ring makes a better seal. I'm getting ready to cut a hole in the center of one of my lids to put a stopper in and use as a opening to add and sample. I have carboys in every shape and size and material. I just don't need another step to become over complicated, rinsing out a bucket with a cheap sponge and some cleaner is enough of a workout for me. Thanks for the video and Happy New Year.

Thanks Larry. You opened my eyes to a new and useful tool. I really dislike the bendable bristle brush I've been using and this will make my process much faster and effective. BTW, you taught me how to brew with your basics videos. I've been doing all grain brewing for 18 months and this summer I moved to electric brewing (Robo Brew), but your basics videos got me going.

Except for the stainless fermenter bucket by SS Brewtech, I agree with you Larry. I use glass carboys all the time. I have 6 carboys and most of them are over 15 years of age! If I have stains that I can not get off with a brush I will fill the carboy to the top with hot water and add PBW. It comes out spotless! Cheers and keep up the helpful hints!
@CanadianBrewingChannel6 жыл бұрын
I don't have a stainless brew bucket yet as well. I built my brew room down stairs. The only thing I have to carry up stairs is spent grain and the beer I drink! Haha! I also use a carboy carrying harness made by Big Mouth Blubber. It will carry up to a 6.5 gallon carboy. I love that thing!

Couldn't agree more. Just used my SS Brewtech Bucket. I am never going back to anything else, cept my Speidel. The ease of use, cleaning and portability of the SS is phenomenal. We're I not out in California, I'd loan ya the bucket to try Larry. Thus far, it has been the easiest fermentor to transport from Point A to Point B

I agree. My brew bucket is super easy to clean, just open up & wipe down near a sink. Maybe not as quick as the tool Larry just showed (Which is awesome and I wish I had thought of that while I used my glass carboy!) But the adjustable racking cane and valve on the bottom make it worth it. I haven't used a auto siphon since. Larry - to your question - the handles are pretty heavy duty. I can't comment and a flight of stairs because I live in a single story house, but I pull mine in and out of a chest freezer for fermentation just fine using the handles on the side.

Larry, I have a fermentaurus and only used it twice, because of the extra effort to disassemble and clean plus I worry about sanitation issues in all those little cracks (have a broke seal already BTW that I now need to replace) I find myself going to my glass carboy. Matter of fact I brewed yesterday and the wort ended up in the glass carboy.

I like your brewing methods, reasons with equipment Larry. Some of the plastic fermenters with the tap that hold wild yeast can become trapped in the plastic tap. I'll have to disagree :). I use CraftABrew's Catalyst conical fermenter. I take the seal off the lid then put the lid, seal, and the tank in my dishwasher (no pre soaking required) and just turn it on! Can't get much easier than that. I end up hand washing the butterfly valve but that's super easy as well.
@ryanjasperse6 жыл бұрын
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY Yeah this is true. It is a pain to remove the top rack... I guess I just like the advantages of the catalyst over a carboy (like transferring, sampling, yeast harvesting, and bottling) enough that some work to clean it doesn't bother me :). Cheers! Keep the content coming

Larry, first off, thank you as always for your videos. They make brewing so easy and approachable and your product reviews really help shape where my money is going to go. I just made my first batch of beer with my new SS Brewtech Bucket. I am never looking back! Ease of set up, ease of cleaning, ease of movement and lastly ease of draining are all TOP NOTCH. I have used buckets, glass and plastic carboys and my Speidel fermentor. While all make beer, nothing compares to the Brewtech. I highly endorse it. Lastly, while there is no drain off port for the trub/yeast, it compresses nicely into the conical shaped bottom.
