The fact that they filmed one of these skits with Larry David, who is arguably the King of anti-formula in TV show writing, makes this whole thing that more special.
@yellowblanka6058

The fact that he's also an older, bald man playing a young cousin "CJ", hahaha. Seems like a reference to all those shows where the "teenagers" were played by late 20's/early 30's actors.
@MattHooverDotCom
@MattHooverDotCom Жыл бұрын
Nothing but love for LD, but I'd actually argue that he does follow a formula to some extent, though it's admittedly his own flavor of formula. After 10+ seasons of his show, new episodes start to get fairly predictable once they reach the halfway point. But still top-tier television!
@jevinday
@jevinday Жыл бұрын
I know, he was the perfect person to do this with. I think most people that see this don't realize how intricate all of the satire is so they think it's just garbage. I actually love the fact that it makes people so confused haha
@canaisyoung3601
@canaisyoung3601 14 күн бұрын
Don't forget: Larry David was once a cast member on "Fridays", ABC's early 1980s ripoff of Saturday Night Live that was ruder, cruder, and more subversive than SNL at the time and did a lot of sketches that defied formula, like that restaurant sketch that ended with Andy Kaufman beating up either Jack Burns or Michael Richards (the whole thing was a prank, but only a few people were in on it) all because Kaufman didn't want to smoke weed during the sketch.

@@amelialovecraft5621 lol Are you kidding me? Even the character names you listed sound alike! This guy has the comedic range of stick of celery and even his strange digital shorts initially made him seem like a weird and woolly replacement for Andy Samberg. He has gotten to do less and less of them and the return of his recurring "romance" with Leslie Jones felt like a pale imitation of the more esoteric humor he used to favor. Only the great ones transition to film and end up taking their career further after SNL ...I just don't see it happening with him.
